Looking Down to Times Square
In a moment of forgetting how much I dislike crowds -- yes, I know I live in Manhattan -- I got theater tickets for this afternoon. I had a wonderful time with my beautiful goddaughter and we enjoyed the play, but we were three blocks from Times Square, which was wall to wall people. By the time we left the theater the space inside these barricades was filled with the people we will see on television a little later. It is a perfect day to be outside in New York this year. Last year we were recovering from the Christmas blizzard, but today was in the 50s and mild.
I am delighted to be spending the evening with friends in my neighborhood, where it looks like any other Saturday night. We will have dinner at a new Greek restaurant and then champagne and cupcakes at one of our friends' apartments. Low key, warm and festive and I will be happy to watch the ball drop from a cozy living room. I will then take the bus home and get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow morning is 2012!
My warmest and sweetest wishes to all who have joined me in Buttercupland this year. I have been blessed again and again and count myself among the luckiest of women to have such dear friends!
