Sometimes you get the Frozen Key Lime Pie...

...and sometimes you really don't. Today really didn't go the way I anticipated. My last thought was maybe not going to work today. It was just a thought, but so enticing. At 6:15 a.m. I got a wake-up call from a colleague letting me know that our computer system at work had crashed. All thoughts of not going in were banished and I went in early and stayed pretty late. I did take pictures of the film trailers in the morning to share with all of you. I get home not so long ago and put my photo chip into the computer and my pictures are gone, simply vanished. I was so excited to share the movie mania a block away. I will try again tomorrow and hope that my pictures are there when I download them. And I chatted with one of the crew and it's a romantic comedy. Had to check for Dear Penniwig, one of my dear readers and the author of a wonderful blog with great, great graphics. And on a further note of technological frustration I am totally unable to link to Penni's great blog.

Since I have no new pictures I'm going to share a sweet picture found on Penniwig's blog.

Sweet dreams, dear friends!

Happy Birthday, Dear Humphrey Bogart!

I was all set to post the clue that it was the 100th birthday of one of my favorite actors when I checked my email and found a very nice note from http://hisdoorkeeper.blogspot.com/and the correct answer for our little quiz. West 103rd St, about half a mile from my house, is Humphrey Bogart Place. I am delighted and my blog friend, you are the winner of a New York souvenir. "Casablanca" is just about my favorite movie of all time and I am also a big fan of "The African Queen" the movie for which Mr. Bogart did win the Academy Award as well as "The Maltese Falcon." If you like movies -- I love movies! -- I highly recommend the great blog of one of all time favorite people, my dear Jess and her wonderful http://insightintoentertainment.blogspot.com.
"The Baster" is still being filmed a block away and they're going to be there all week. It is an immense temptation to take tomorrow or Thursday off and hang out on Broadway and watch the filming. I'm pretty sure I'll not succumb to this temptation, but I think it would be fun.
Good night dear friends and very sweet dreams!

Movie Mania

I was coming home tonight from an arduous afternoon at a public hearing -- I know that's redundant -- just about all afternoons at public hearings are arduous. In front of my local grocery and a block from my house there was a movie trailer. This isn't unusual. At least once a month some movie or television show is being filmed, if nothing more than an episode of "Law and Order." There's always a sign posted and I always read the sign. It said the movie being filmed was "The Baster." I zipped home and googled it and found it's with Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman. I didn't get to see either of them, so it's a very peripheral claim to movie fame, but still it perked up my evening. I didn't take any pictures, so the picture above taken last week, one block away will have to do. Do like a picture to pep up the blog.
(Sort of) Clue to the movie quiz...He was nominated 3 times for an Academy Award. New clue tomorrow.
Thanks all for stopping by!

There is Nothing Like...

...a pedicure. My apologies to Rogers and Hammerstein, but there is absolutely nothing like a pedicure to cheer me up and bring me totally out of turnip-land. Was feeling a little turnipy today and marched myself over to my favorite nail salon and put to use the remainder of my holiday gift certificate. Thanks, again, Kathy, Jess and Tom. Somewhere around the time when my feet were being massaged with "Energizing Orange" massage cream the world looked rosier. Of course, the world hadn't changed, but my mood had and I am still feeling buttercupish and not turnipy four hours later.

On the way home I passed our local community garden which had a wonderful tulip festival. Took a few pictures to share. Not sure I do the festival justice.

During my travels around the Upper West Side I passed a street named for one of my favorite actors of all time and found his childhood house. Yes, there's a plaque on the building. Any guesses? I'll post the answer and photos this week. There may be a New York City souvenir for the right guess.

Have a great Monday!

P.S. Check out my favorite movies on my profile for a clue.

Happy Key Lime Pie Day

I've been feeling less than my usual sunny Buttercup self for the last few days. Maybe it was seeing the animals going down Broadway two by two, or maybe I am just turning into a big turnip. The latter thought comes via my friend Penniwig, who wrote in her blog about becoming a turnip, and I borrowed that malady for myself.

In some perverse way the thought of turning into a large root vegetable cheered me up. I also remembered that today is National Key Lime Pie Day. As key lime pie is one of all time favorite food treats I am going to declare today a Buttercup holiday. Key Lime Pie Day is the first Buttercup Holiday and no, I don't get the day off from work nor are there greeting cards, but I am wishing all of you a very happy day. I so like the idea I may declare a Buttercup holiday every month. Just wait and see!

Happy Key Lime Pie Day!

Anteater to Zebra, Two by Two down Broadway

Somehow the blissful spring disappeared into a day and night of cold rain. I stepped out of the grocery tonight and I was sure I was seeing the animals going down Broadway two by two, starting with the anteaters and ending with the zebras. The ark must be following close behind.
It was too dark and rainy for any new photos, so to cheer us all -- and especially me -- I'll post a picture of spring flowers I took a couple of weeks ago in Union Square at 14th Street.

Wishes for a return of light and sunshine!

10 Favorite Places (1) or Goodbye, Columbus (Circle)

What seems like a million years ago, though only 10 in October, Buttercup and colleagues worked at this site. In those days the building was called 10 Columbus Circle and it was all government offices. The building had been slated for demolition for years when we moved in and indeed, they began to take it down the Monday after we moved out in 1999. The building grew pretty seedy, but I loved it. It was a mile and a half from my house, with a library and Lincoln Center, bank, great grocery shopping and movies between there and home. The other perks were the fantastic location with a view overlooking Central Park and the movie stars. Offices were rented to movie production companies and you never knew who would be sharing an elevator. Mel Gibson, Bradd Pitt and Ron Howard all shared our floor at different times.

Now the area is known for the Time Warner Building, complete with elegant restaurants, nice stores and Jazz at Lincoln Center. I stop in from time to time to shop at Whole Foods and Borders and enjoy the amenities, but there's always a pang for the time I spent at 10 CC.

I love this picture. Not sure what the UFO sighting would be, but it made an interesting moment.

Thanks all for stopping by. Love sharing New York and some of my favorite places here with all of you. Wishes for a wonderful spring week!

I Traded a Bag of Worries

I have a million profound posts in mind, but this little episode keeps popping up with my blog friends in mind. It's after work tonight and I've taken the subway to 96th Street and Lexington Avenue. I'm on my way to visit my aunt, who's recuperating (nicely!) from surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. My mind is floating somewhere in space and when I focus on earth I'm trying to will the light to change to GO when I feel this little licking feeling on my ankle. I jump about ten feet and look down at the culprit. I am staring at the sweetest tiny miniature dachshund. The woman walking him is staring at me, because there's no reason to jump when this sweet little dog is licking my ankle. This little puppy cutie brought me back down to earth and instead of the bag of worries I'd been carrying around today, the little dachshund has stuck in my mind.

I know this little dog isn't a dachshund and yes, he's dressed for Valentine's Day, but I've been searching for dachshund pictures and haven't found anything I like. Please accept this little cute dog as a token of my affection, dear blog friends. Good wishes and sweet dreams!

And the Voice of the Ice Cream Truck is Heard in our Land

I was going to offer this post with my apologies to the Song of Solomon, but realized no apologies are needed. I am in synch with this homage to the coming of spring, but with a very different twist. As I emerged from the subway tonight I saw trees in magnificent bloom; it's Opening Day for the Mets and on the corner of West 87th Street I saw the first Mr. Softee Truck of the season. Not quite the words of scripture, but with the full arrival of spring we blessedly survive another winter.

It's Opening Day

This isn't quite Citi Field, where the Mets will play, but it seemed appropriate for the season and today is opening day for the Mets. The Yankees home opening day is Thursday and there's lots of baseball excitement in New York.
I am a Yankee fan and have been for a long time, but like the Mets, too. My office has had some involvement with the planning of both stadiums, so this is a most long awaited day.
Lots of luck to the Mets on their opener and lots of good wishes dear blog friends for a great week!

Happy Easter Wishes!

You know you're really grown up...

...when you have a medical test and the doctor says "See you next year," and it's just about the best thing you can think of. Had my mammogram this afternoon. This is one test I just dread and to be honest I put it off, even though I know I shouldn't. About a year ago my radiologist closed his practice and I dragged on making the appointment with one that was recommended. Like everything, the longer I delayed the more anxious I got. Finally today came. Thankfully, everyone was so nice and most importantly, the results were good. An unexpected bonus was they take my insurance. Now I promise to be consistent and go every year.

My weekend in Connecticut was great. We had lovely spring weather and I got to see my aunt, three first cousins and all eight of their kids. Even though I love living in New York I get very nostalgic for Connecticut when I visit, especially in the spring and fall. I forget how much I dislike the New England winter when I focus on daffodils and tulips. Special fun was getting to see my cousin's two new puppies, Susha and Dudley, who are absolutely adorable and having a great visit with my cousin, Donna. Thanks Donna for a wonderful time.
Take good care, blog friends and have a great Wednesday!

You know you need the weekend...

...when you pick up the remote to make a phone call and only realize there's a problem when you can't figure out where to listen to the dial tone. I'm taking a mini-vacation to visit family in Connecticut. Hoping a little change of pace and the first signs of a New England spring will get me back on track. If there's spring to see I'll be back with pictures.

Have a great weekend, blog friends.
