It's National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day

In the interest of spontaneity I am postponing the planned post for today and declaring a Buttercup Holiday. For the more recent citizens of Buttercupland, a Buttercup holiday is a spontaneous -- there's that word again -- holiday. It generally falls closely after another holiday when I find that I'm having trouble getting back into the routine. It's one of the great privileges of being the monarch of Buttercupland. Sometimes it's a day to stay in flannel and drink hot cocoa, but today we're celebrating National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day.

My favorite New York deli\and home of a great pastrami sandwich

Last year I found a list of American food holidays. Almost every day in the year celebrates a different food. Today is National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day. Yesterday was Peach Melba Day and tomorrow is Strawberry Ice Cream Day. In the interest of healthier eating I'm celebrating the thought of having a hot pastrami sandwich. I am also celebrating the thought of a big plate of French fries and a coke, with sugar.

What favorite food are you celebrating in thought?

Wishes for a yummy Buttercup holiday and a terrific Tuesday!

I Know We Just Had a Holiday...

...But I really need another one!

I've recently entered three competitions. Of the three there was one I thought I was a shoo-in. I wrote a great essay, had terrific experience and honestly, couldn't imagine there was anyone more qualified. I really know New York well. I knew there would be a lot of competition, but there were a number of spaces and I was reasonably confident I'd be one of the people picked. This afternoon I found out I wasn't.

As the evening wore on I felt like a balloon slowly emptied, and a history of not being picked has taken over my thoughts. I am remembering not being picked for gym teams, not being picked for my first choice college and not being picked for jobs I really wanted. Ouch! I feel too down in the dumps to post the perky upbeat post I had planned and will let that wait for another day.

I turned to Pinterest to distract me and figured I could take refuge in pinning the most gorgeous luscious cupcakes I could find. But what did I find instead of cupcakes to lift my spirits?

...this blood orange Margarita!

On this Buttercup Holiday I'm off to Margaritaville in my mind. All visitors to Buttercupland are gladly welcome to join along!

It's a Buttercup Holiday...

Yes, It's Sock Monkey Pajama Day!
Source: target.com via Carol on Pinterest

I haven't declared a Buttercup Holiday in quite awhile. But I was visiting a fun new blog buddy who wrote about having a wonderful day lounging in pajamas. So citizens of Buttercupland, let's schedule a day to have a second cup of coffee, slowly read the newspaper and any and all magazines and catch our collective breaths. I am recommending these sock monkey pajamas as the official outfit for this holiday.  And while you're lounging please pay a visit to Sunny Simple Life and enter the giveaway taking place there.

Actually this afternoon I'm off at a fun program. I heard Carrie Fisher interviewed last year and this year I am very excited about the celebrity we will see interviewed. If at all possible there will be pictures.

Wishes for a sweet Sunday and a sweet week!

It's Holiday Time...

...at least in all parts of Buttercupland. I spent the greater part of last week -- and it wasn't so great -- in one of the windowless conference rooms at work, conducting a set of interviews. We did seventeen interviews -- of at least an hour each -- in the last four days. I feel like a missed a week of my life, though it does feel good to have the biggest part of this project completed.

I am so glad it's Saturday morning. I've had a good night's sleep and have an interesting, but not overly filled, day ahead and have no plans for tomorrow. Iced coffee and the New York Times top the weekend schedule. I can celebrate iced coffee -- and will -- several times this weekend. But I am also open to suggestions. If you could declare a holiday, in Buttercupland, or anywhere else, what holiday would you declare? And why? The holiday that most piques my fancy will take place in August in Buttercupland, in honor of you! In the interim, let's have a big glass of iced coffee with lots of milk, and since we don't have to count calories, a brownie or blueberry muffin.

Tomorrow morning is a holiday, when I'll announce the winner of the latest Blogspark giveaway. Have a great  Saturday.

It's a Buttercup Holiday

to Spring
We can hardly wait until you are here!

Had a dreary day at work, which included a melt down on the phone. Luckily I was speaking with a favorite colleague who talked me off the proverbial ledge. The day got a little better, but big clouds hung over me. We've got a very big project going on -- finished on March 5 -- that I am dreading. The last time we did something of this magnitude I broke out in hives, which I do very rarely, and only under great stress.

What's a girl to do when faced with a hive producing situation? When you've got your own country as I do the best solution is to declare a holiday! I hereby declare the last hour of February 17 and the first 23 hours of February 18 as "Welcome to Spring Day." This day shall be celebrated throughout all parts of Buttercupland and in blogs with reciprocal diplomatic privileges. Get going, my dear ambassadors. We've got a season to get ready for!

Celebrate...

Come on Good times! There's a party going on tonight because it's a Buttercup holiday. In all parts of Buttercupland -- and anywhere else you'd like to celebrate -- it's Blog Sisters' Day! I don't know if this is a holiday anywhere else, but it should be.
I love presiding over my own country, even if it's only a virtual country. There are no taxes, ice cream is double rich and yet has no calories, and all the lighting is very flattering. I can declare a holiday any time I choose and there's peace and love all the time. Please come and visit often, dear blog sisters. You will have a warm welcome in Buttercupland from the Buttercup-in-Chief.

It's July 32nd...

Happy Birthday to Kristin!

...in Buttercup Land. It's great to have my own country. One of my powers in Buttercup Land is to change the calendar at will. In the rest of my time zone it's 11:02 PM on August 1, but here it's 11:02 PM on July 32nd. I am stopping time to declare the July Buttercup holiday. Somehow with all that was going on in July I lost track of my holidays. What might be a problem in real life is possible here, in my nice parallel universe.

The Buttercup holiday for July is to celebrate Kristen's birthday. Kristen of the blog, The Journey of Making Dreams a Reality, had asked that her July birthday be declared a national holiday. I can't do it for America, but I can declare July 32nd Kristen's Birthday a Buttercup Holiday. It's a little late, but nonetheless heartfelt. Dear Kristin, have a great and happy and healthy year!
Stop by and visit Kristin's blog. It's lovely reading!

Happy Birthday, Dear Jess

Tomorrow is my dear goddaughter's 30th birthday, and the perfect occasion for a Buttercup holiday. From the sweetest little girl to the loveliest woman, Jess, you are a joy and your birthday is a reason to declare a holiday. I can't make it a national holiday, but here in the Kingdom of Buttercup it's a holiday.

Wishing you a wonderful birthday and joy, happiness, hugs and good health for many happy years to come!

It's Turnip Eve

I am officially declaring tonight, May 5 as Turnip Eve. Tomorrow, May 6 will be a Buttercup Holiday, celebrated in all parts of Buttercupland. Tomorrow is Turnip Day! You ask how to celebrate...Be kind and think kind thoughts of turnips, parsnips and all other root vegetables and be happy for their presence and your presence in the world.
Hugs and blessings, turnips, parsnips and dear friends and readers!

Happy Key Lime Pie Day

I've been feeling less than my usual sunny Buttercup self for the last few days. Maybe it was seeing the animals going down Broadway two by two, or maybe I am just turning into a big turnip. The latter thought comes via my friend Penniwig, who wrote in her blog about becoming a turnip, and I borrowed that malady for myself.

In some perverse way the thought of turning into a large root vegetable cheered me up. I also remembered that today is National Key Lime Pie Day. As key lime pie is one of all time favorite food treats I am going to declare today a Buttercup holiday. Key Lime Pie Day is the first Buttercup Holiday and no, I don't get the day off from work nor are there greeting cards, but I am wishing all of you a very happy day. I so like the idea I may declare a Buttercup holiday every month. Just wait and see!

Happy Key Lime Pie Day!
