Pink Saturday Goes to College

It's a Pink Saturday sunset at Columbia University

I wasn't the "Lone Tourist" last week at Columbia. I was shopping at a grocery that carried a few things I wanted to get, which is across the street from the Columbia main campus. I decided to walk into the campus and take a few pictures for a future post. The future post is now and I hope you enjoy our quick visit.

I'm only a mile from the Columbia campus and I'm in the neighborhood every few months, sometimes more often. When my friends' daughter was one of the Columbia cheerleaders I enjoyed meeting her parents for basketball games. I posted this photograph  in 2020 after a game in February. I also wrote that I'd be doing a post on Columbia "soon," but soon didn't arrive, until now.

While Columbia is just (sort of) part of the extended neighborhood, it has an illustrious history. It was founded by royal charter under George II in 1754. After the American Revolution (1784) it was renamed Columbia and in 1787 placed under a board of trustees headed by former students, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton. The campus is enormous, (299 acres) especially for being in the middle of the city. Three presidents have attended Columbia: Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Barack Obama and Dwight D. Eisenhower served as president from 1948 to 1953.

I hope you've enjoyed our  college visit. I'm hoping to make more visits to Columbia, both to enjoy the campus and to attend programs. I'll be sure and share my college adventures.

It's a busy week ahead. I've got a dentist appointment, my virtual book club, a condolence call and several visits -- at least that's my goal -- to the gym. What's on your agenda?

As ever, thanks for visiting and have a good week.

I learned something from this post. That is so cool that you live so close to such an important university. I enjoyed your mini-tour and will look forward to more posts about Columbia. :-)

Beautiful campus and I enjoyed the history. Hubby and I often visit a campus when we travel if there's on at hand. They're almost always pretty and a great place to walk. We find them interesting.
