E Is for Ellens Stardust Diner

When I posted yesterday I'd given up hope for finding an "E" subject and was ready to do some convoluted alphabet gymnastics. But I was walking on Broadway at West 51st St. and found the perfect subject for both "E" and New York City food, Ellen's Stardust Diner. Though it was lunchtime I didn't stop in for lunch and more photos because there was the usual line up the block, even on a cold and rainy day.

Ellens Stardust is owned by Ellen Hart Sturm, once Miss Subway, and also the former owner of Ellens Coffee Cafe. It's a fifties themed diner with singing waitstaff. I don't remember eating there -- the line always deters me -- but I ate at the Coffee Cafe many times when I worked at City Hall. It was across the street from City Hall and the source for pastry we served at meetings. I ate much too much cherry danish in those years, but forty plus years later I can remember how delicious the pastries were.

I'm a diner fan and have a few favorites around the city, including one that will (most likely) reappear later in the alphabet. I like the wide array of menu items, though I frequently order the same few items. I'm a big fan of breakfast foods and most diners serve breakfast all day. Is anyone else a breakfast for lunch or dinner fan?

We're back to cold and dreary weather, but I'm pleased to report that I got most of my errands done and walked my three miles today. I'll be back tomorrow with bright and colorful photos for "F."

As ever, thanks for visiting and take care.

How perfect for the letter E. I enjoy those kind of dinners and they always have the best food. We have one here that has been around forever and my kids love to go there when they come to visit. It's become one our family traditions to go there. We've been warmer now for a couple of days and had some scattered showers too, but they say by the weekend we may have snow again.

My mother lives in New York and I'll be visiting her at Easter so I'll be reading your A to Z posts for good places to eat.

My A to Z is about documentary movies. Here's today's post if you're interested: https://othemts.wordpress.com/2022/04/07/documentary-movie-review-fannie-lou-hamers-america-bloggingatozchallenge/

I would try to brave the line to eat at Ellen's at least once, Carol. To answer your question, breakfast out is a favorite when we're traveling and even when at home. Last weekend we had breakfast at the cafe that's at the local airport. It's always a busy place with a wait line on weekend mornings.

I would have to stand in that line ( on a warmer and drier day) to try that food. I love breakfast and the last 50's style diner that I ate at I am happy to say that I enjoyed a delicious fried bologna sandwich. It was delicious!!

That looks like a fun place to eat, especially when one can order breakfast any time of day!

Diners are my favourite thing, in the UK we have cafes, but they can be either posh & upscale, or scruffy & designed for workmen. I love the mix of a US Diner, but I especially love the styling.

What a wonderful diner! Diner's are few in our Mississippi Gulf Coast area, but when Hubby and I used to visit San Francisco every year, we had a diner that was a must for visiting a couple of times each trip. These days we have a favorite diner in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We go there at least once on each of our trips to the Smoky Mountains. We order breakfast no matter the time of day.

I like the idea of a theme diner. Ellens Stardust diner sounds like a fun place to eat but I definitely don't have the patience to wait in line though.

Have a lovely day.

That look like it is a great diner. I love them too. We went to a diner in Glenwood Springs, COlorado on a trip a few years ago but it was not as fun looking at Ellen's . I find something fascinating in diners. Thanks for sharing. LOve & Hugs acrosss the miles.
