A Is for an Australian Bakery (in Manhattan)

And it's not an April Fool joke

Today we begin the ever popular A to Z Blogging Challenge. My assignment, and the assignment of hundreds of other bloggers, is to do a post every day (except Sundays) in alphabetical order and end with Z. I've participated in almost every year since 2013 (skipped 2015 when I was in Japan). I start off with great vigor, but as I'm the first to admit don't always get to the end of the alphabet. There were even a few years when I didn't get to the middle of the alphabet. But I'm optimistic that 2022 will be one of the years when I complete the assignment and feature a host of fun and interesting posts for the Challenge.

I sampled a very tasty croissant during my visit,
but I'd like to return to try one (or more) of the breads.

I'm sure there may be a reader or two who is a little skeptical of using Australian bakery for the A post, but I've got two items to share for the B post tomorrow and I didn't have a post for A, so Australian bakery it is. I'm sure as I get farther into the alphabet I'll be doing some complicated alphabet gymnastics, so you're all warned. But I don't see that there's much to object to when our first post is this terrific new bakery in the neighborhood, Bourke Street Bakery. It's the extension of a well-known bakery in Sydney. I am a huge fan of all things -- especially food and drink -- Australian following my trip there in 2018 and I'm amazed that Bourke Street has been open at this location for months and I've missed it. I will have to make up for lost time and stop by again soon for my favorite flat white coffee.

Tonight A is also for accomplished. I'm so glad to be right up to date for the first post about New York City Food and Drink. There will be lots of coffee and a fair amount of bakeries, too. In the last year new bakeries have opened throughout my neighborhood and I'll be sharing some of the amazing treats I've discovered. But it won't all be sweets and treats, but I hope it will be a yummy time for all.

I don't feel as though I'm getting all that much done in the rest of my life, but I looked at this week's to-do list and there was a lot that I've checked off, including finishing my taxes. I've also spent time with friends, done major decluttering and made donations for Ukraine. I've  gotten to the gym (finally beginning to get into a routine) and to Weight Watchers. I've also taken lots of pictures for this month's posts.

As ever thanks for visiting and welcome to new blog buddies visiting from the A to Z Challenge.

I've never really thought of Australia as a baking nation in the way many European countries are, so having an Australian Bakery was interesting.
All the best for the rest of the Challenge and I hope you get to finish it.

We have very few bakeries here. My favorite is in another town. I love pastries and breads of all sorts and it would be wonderful to have one like this in our neighborhood.

Hi Carol. I think the Australian Bakery is a perfect "A" post. Everything looks delicious. It sounds like you had a very productive week. I wish my husband would hurry up and finish our taxes. We have lots of things going on that make our complicated and it takes time. Thank goodness I am married to an accountant! Hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

We can only do so much. Not sure I'll make it to the end either, but hopefully we both do.

I'll have to check out this bakery next time we are in NY. We haven't been since COVID started.

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.

I'm sure we'll all do some complicated alphabet gymnastics especially with u, v, x, and z, I know I've always found it harder for those letters.

Australian bakery is a good first post. I have not been to Bourke Street Bakery so no idea about the food there. Maybe it would be nice if you list some of the food highlights for each place you mention.

Have a lovely day.

I'm always up for an Australian Bakery anywhere in the world, so happy days from me. Good to see you back in the A to Z challenge too, we can cheer each other through!

I've been known to do some creative stretching with the letters of the alphabet too! The cookies and the breads look yummy.

I was wondering what kind of bakery product would be typically Australian - the only thing I could think of was if there was some form of cheese straw with Vegemite. This sounds like heaven to me as I've always preferred Vegemite to Marmite (heresy some would as I'm British!).

Big coffee & cake fan, so looking forward to the journey :)
