Saturday in the Park...

...and at the Museum

Today has been a quiet day. Plans got cancelled and it rained until a little while ago. I caught up on the New York Times and did chores in the apartment and grocery shopping. I have all the ingredients prepped for a batch of gazpacho and will put them in the blender right after I do this post. I've got checks and thank you notes to write and look forward to a calm evening.
Yesterday was a real summer day and we had no rain! I had a little time in Central Park, sitting on a bench and reading and then a lovely evening at one of my all-time favorite places anywhere, the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I met a friend for dinner and then we saw a wonderful show of treasures from Afghanistan. Most of the pieces dated back at least 2000 years, when Afghanistan was a major part of the Silk Road and trading with China, India and Egypt. These treasures had been hidden for several years and "rediscovered" only a few years ago. There were glass pieces, fabulous jewelry and sculpture.
Spent a little time wandering through the halls of the museum and what beauty at every step. A Rodin sculpture at one turn and a medieval Madonna at another. Definitely on my schedule for a return visit soon.
Wishing all of my dear and gentle readers moments of beauty this week and always!

I'm so new to your blog that I just now realized you live in New York City. I've only know one other lady in person that moved to Ky from New York City...what a culture shock for her it was and and interesting adventure in getting to know her it was for me and my co-workers. She seemed so streetwise and savvy...we just adored her!

Looking forward to reading more and more about your very interesting life!☺

HI!!!
You are so lucky to be a NEW YORK CITY girl!!! My daughters and I want to come to NYC and very soon, maybe real soon as she wants to get pregnant again 1st of the year!!! Would love to go to the museum, Central Park, a Broadway play, oh so much to see and do!!!! I think people who live there like here in the winter so take if for granted--NOT that you do, cause you moved there recnetly??? But people who lived there forever, forget how great of a place it really is!!! Ariz. in the winter is divine!!! And I know I take that for granted!!!!
hugs to you,
jamie

I don't think my day was as refined. I saw 3 trains and incredibly, a family of WILD TURKEYS crossing the road.

Noticed you became a follower of my blog. Wanted to come by and thank you for visiting me. I am honored! Quiet days are nice. I find I need those now and then to de-stress and recharge my batteries for the days ahead. Today was a quiet day for us too. Except for the busy morning at church since we were coffee hosts. That kept us hopping for awhile. Thank you again for visiting me. That was great.

You days in New York - seems to me I get the same feelings of my days in Alaska. How lucky you are to live in such a place and be able to do what you need and want to do.

Buttercup, I've always lived in small town USA. Culture is always in the big city. We are a tiny, small liberal arts college town, less than 4,000. We have a Saturday Farmer's Market, and two coffeehouses, and programs that the college sponsors. Corn fields surround the town and fields of black and white dotted holstein cows, or sheep. Horses are everywhere. We have a covered bridge, and a terrific library. It's a happy, busy town, full of good people. But you my dear...have the richness, and the bustle, and all the stimulation or quiet of a park...whichever you desire, at any moment. We're both blessed, aren't we?
