Nor Any a Drop to Drink (With Apologies to Coleridge)

Or, more importantly, wash my hands

Every six months, or so, my building shuts off the water for most of the day, to perform some kind of needed repair to our somewhat temperamental plumbing system. The building was built in 1911 and though sturdy, it needs a lot of tweaks. Usually, a water shut down isn't a problem. On a regular Thursday I would have showered and made coffee before leaving for my 11:00 a.m. Weight Watchers group. Knowing that the water had been turned off until 4:00 p.m. I would have made a plan for the afternoon and returned in the afternoon to running water.

But this isn't usually. I was up after seven, showered and made coffee. I went to my Weight Watchers group via Zoom and then decided to have lunch. Eek! Most of the things I have needed some preparation, and the beginning of that preparation was running water. I thought of going down to get my mail from yesterday, but I would need to wash my hands after returning from my lobby.  I took a portion of stew out of the freezer, heated it up and that was lunch. The dish can wait for the return of hot water to be rinsed. None of this is earth shattering, but it literally brought home to me that there are few things that are usual on March 26, 2020.

On a different note, welcome to my sink. I don't have a back splash in back of my sink, but a selection of my tile collection. My mother began the collection in 1966 with the purchase of the smaller blue and white tile in Delft. One of the other tiles she collected is at the far left and it's from a trip to Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts. To the right of the original Delft tile are tiles I bought in Curacao, Brazil and Greece. I use some of the tiles as trivets and others I enjoy in the kitchen. Is anyone else a tile collector?

That's my news for the day. Weight Watchers in the morning, blog visits and now to settle in with a book. I've also got decluttering on the schedule, and then some shredding. What have you done today that you especially enjoyed?

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care of yourself. Much love and wash your hands!

Your tiles are beautiful! I have never heard of anyone with this hobby, where else do you get them? I have the stick-on tiles behind my sink, in these same colors. I'm glad you didn't have to go without water for much longer! Seems everything we do either involves water or electricity.

Those tiles are beautiful! Oh, so, if your bored, I can send you my Spanish homework to do, LOLOL.

I am so glad Hornell has never had to turn the water off/ drain it or such (where you have to boil it or let it run clear), yes...but never off.

The water system is a bit of a problem with this corona virus outbreak. Best of luck to you. Those are lovely tiles 🌷

Those aere very beautiful tiles and I know that they must give you joy when you look at them.

That has to be a long day without water. By now it must be on so you can go about and do what you need to do.

I am sitting outside on my deck and enjoying this beautiful day. I could have done some work around the yard, but this is a better use of my time.

I live tiles, though I'm not a collector. That water situation really does bring it home, doesn't it?

I had a lovely distance chat with a neighbor before I did my walk around the development. The nearby park is closed, so I'm taking different ways around to keep it interesting. Waved to a stranger bringing out her trash, and she shouted oh, how lovely to see a PERSON! And we both burst out laughing.

I know you're glad to have Zoom! No, I don't collect tiles but I know they are lovely. We hiked this morning and then I altered a top on the sewing machine this afternoon. It's been a good day! I hope your day is back on track with the water on! Take care! I'm praying for you my friend....for all of us! Sweet hugs!

OUR WATER WOULD BE SHUT OFF FOR A WHILE WHEN WE WERE GROWING UP IN GEORGIA FOR MAINTENANCE. WE HAD A NEIGHBOR WITH A WELL. THE WELL WATER TASTED SO GOOD AND COLD.

I love the tiles by your sink. I have been working online all day (grading student work and answering their questions). I plan to quit soon and read the rest of the evening.

Yikes, it is hard to do much without water if you think about it. I am staying home except for getting outside a little to cure the cabin fever. The weather has been really nice and for that I am thankful. Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!

I love your tile collection. I have a few, my favorite being one I found in a thrift store from Venice, Italy - it has blown glass beads melted onto the tile. Thanks for stopping by my blog, always nice to hear from a new to me blogger

How we love our water. I like that lemon soap sitting on your sink. I am in love with anything lemon.
Glad to see you are doing good during this trying time.

Buttercup, I hope you have your water on now that it is past 4. During various hurricanes or frozen wintry pipes, we have been without water and we have been without electricity. If I could keep just one - I'd definitely keep the water! Have a lovely weekend!
