One Thing About Autumn I Do Not Love

I love the autumn. I love the bright, crisp sunny days and the cool evenings. I love reading, while I'm all curled up in an afghan and a cup of tea is on the table next to me, or maybe some cider I've heated up. I love seeing apples and pumpkins at the fruit stand. These are among my many autumn loves...But I don't love my dry and scratchy skin. Autumn is just a month old and I feel that I could win an award for dry skin already.

There are a million products just a few blocks away and I've got all kinds of lotions and creams already, but I'm still searching. I have uber-sensitive skin and as the years have gone by I've given up almost all products with pretty scents. I seem to have developed new allergies and this last step has kept things from getting much worse. My mother also developed later in life skin allergies, so I think there could be a hereditary component. Yes, I've just about given up perfume, too. This is very economical, but I do miss scented products. I was a Chanel #5 wearer for years.

Dear blog buddies, you are my go-to pals for any and all issues. I've asked about hearing aids, dress styles, coffee makers and wearing braces. I think there's no better group to chat with about this issue. I did ask the the nurse practitioners at my skin care check up last week, and they had good ideas, but I am sure there's great advice in Buttercupland, too. This inquiring mind wants to know, what are your tips for fighting dry skin?

It was truly autumn in New York today. The afternoon was lovely, but when the sun went down it was cold. I have to start keeping a pair of gloves in my pocket. I walked over to the drugstore a couple of hours ago and there was a definite chill. Gloves and a scarf are about to make their annual reappearance. Hat will have to wait a little while longer, I hope.

As always, thanks for stopping by and take good care of yourself.

My skin gets very dry and itchy, too. I use Lubriderm or Aveeno, usually unscented because I have sensitive skin, too. I'm not too good with remembering to use it everyday, though.

My hubby has the same problem. His dermatologist told him to put on lotion within 5 minutes of taking a shower to help hold in the moisture. He says he can tell a difference when he does that.

My dermatologist has a recipe she gives me...she writes a script for a hydrocortozone..and you mix that tube with a jar of cetaphil cream...you can get the cream at Walmart or any drug store...it is around $10.00 per jar mixed with the hydrocortozone it works great. I love it...it last for several months....use it after shower or bath.. I love the stuff! Blessings!

My doctor recommended Aquaphor. It for extremely dry skin. I use it at night on my hands and put cotton gloves.

I have developed the same in the last couole of years. Super dry fall and winter skin. My doctor said no more hot showers, just luke warm.. ick.. lol and only unscented skin products. I too have always loved the scented stuff. Sadly, no more, at least for me. I now use unscented Dove in the shower, and unscented Weleda products in my face and arms and legs, etc. It works very well! I hope you find a cure. The itchy feeling is the pits!

My favorite cream, for All Over - my face, body and feet.....Eucerin!!! #1 doctor recommended. No scent, $8.99 but sometimes you can find a $1 off coupon. I swear by this. I am 59, and have been told I look like I am in my 40's....I'll take it! Try it, you'll like it. I buy it in CVS. xo

My skin was always dry until I started using Oil of Olay Quench! It doesn't have much scent and works PERFECT for me! I put it on when I get out of the shower and it keeps my skin from being dry or itchy:) Hope you find something that helps! HUGS from Georgia!

I use a mild soap and I always put Curel fragrance free lotion on at night and any time I am dry. I have sensitive skin, too and Curel is the only lotion I can use. It costs a little more but it is worth it...YOU are worth it! Fragrance free!!! Sweet hugs!

I would suggest CeraVe, which my husband uses. Also, Cetaphil is what our daughter uses for our grandson. Glycerin soap seems to be a help, too. I wish I could come up with a foolproof solution for you. Personally, I use Mary Kay products for everything.

I agree with the Eucerin and have heard great things about Oil of Olay. I tried Aveeno but Burt's Bees is the one that is doing the best for me. It's all NATURAL ingredients!

P.S. If you try Burt's Bees, buy it at someplace like Wal-Mart or even online where the price will be the best. Sounds like you might be trying a few things. We will be interested to hear which one works best for you.

I find that old fashioned Vaseline is great for overnight - hands, feet, etc. One Christmas, I made a mixture of Vit E, Vaseline and baby lotion that was a big hit - just mixed it in my kitchen mixer!

I have used Aveeno, Ahava, Vasciline and practically anything they advertise that promises me skin like a baby's bun. Some work better than others (Ahava), but I am still flaking away.

My skin gets extremely dry and itchy, so I can empathize! I love the Autumn for the cool, windy temperatures, the beautiful colours and the harvest of root vegetables at great prices. Thank you for sharing this post, I will read the comments to see how people cope with the dry and itchy skin.

I use Nivea Soft but I don't think it comes fragrance free.
I just need to remember to use it more.

The ideas in the comments are interesting. I don't use much lotion; the one I like is Avalon Organics "Sweet Orange and Bergamot" scent which is very light.

One of my daughter in laws has sensitive skin too and can only use fragrance free lotions. She love Aveeno products and says they are the best.
