Hey, Make Me Over

I caught a glimpse of myself in a store window this afternoon and I wasn't thrilled with my reflection. I wasn't struck with the the thought of either chubby or old, two thoughts that have come to my mind more than once when seeing my reflection. The words that came to mind were "plain" and "drab." I thought I looked pretty good when I left my apartment. I was wearing jeans, a gray shirt and a red quilted jacket for a pop of color.

Later as I sat sipping coffee I thought about the words I would like to come to mind when I see myself -- pulled together, attractive and every once in awhile, sophisticated. I don't expect to look like the mannequin in the photo, but I think it's time to reinvent my look.

If there are any style bloggers who have ideas or web sites that would like to do a makeover, please think of me. In the interim, I'll be going through my closet and looking at the outfits that speak pulled together, attractive and sophisticated. I appreciate any tips you've used for keeping your wardrobe fresh, fun and still economical, please let me know. It's time for a style reinvention.

I enjoy visiting the website Generation Fabulous, a great place for midlife bloggers. Today I'm linking up with this month's bloghop, Reinvention. Please stop by and visit.

Thanks for visiting and take good care of yourself.

BUT - If I were in the room with you right now - I would sing:
"I Love You Just The Way You Are!!!"

rearrange - or whatever makes you happy - You'll Still Be Perfect.

I have loved adding more color to my closet in recent years. I wonder why it seemed to be missing in the past.
Makeovers can be fun. Just remember that we seem to be our own worst critics.:-)

I like Generation Fabulous. One of the writers Pam Lutrell reinvented herself at age 50. She is now 60 and has marvelous tips on her blog.

Hey, I thought that left leg of yours looked really SLIM in your previous post (reflection). Must be all that walking?

I'm going to check out this link a little later ... gosh knows, I need to reawaken whatever sense of style I once had!

Oh Dear Carol. I know what you mean!!
I leave the house and think, "I don't look too bad" later I see myself and think, "what!!" did I look like that when I left!?
I do need a make-over too!! I really don't want to spend the money and I guess these are thoughts that most of us have these days.
Anyway, I understand. It sometimes seems like others just have it all pulled together, (all the time!!).
I know we are works in progress and are beautiful!
Blessings dear friend. Catherine xo

That happens to me, too. I think I look pretty good...and then get a glimpse of myself in a different mirror and have a totally different opinion. I say mirrors should be banned! On the serious side, do you ever read More magazine? I think it might inspire you and give you some ideas. It did me!

Affording new clothing is hard for us. I look like a total frump, except at Church. I recommend hitting the thrift stores and bring an honest friend. It really helps to have a second opinion. I find dressy clothing is easier to find in good shape secondhand than the run of the mill stuff. Hence my Church clothes are cute and the rest....not so much.

Yesterday I went to mall, where they have those HUGE sliding reflective glass doors, I had the same thoughts as you, I averted my eyes then wondered why am I always so critical of how I look, I looked around and wasn't at all critical of how other women looked. Your outfit sounds quite put together and chic to me, so if you'd of been with a friend I wonder what they would have said about your outfit.

I'm beyond being made over here, I think. I have so many clothes from when I worked that don't think I'll be buying new for a long time. But sometimes it's fun to change around what you do have with a scarf or a sweater. I love to layer things and now that it's getting colder layering will be a necessity too. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with.

I'm working (slowly) on a reinvention as well. I'm an outdoorsy type, so I wear a lot of clothes that are great for hikes. I'm looking for a softer, more feminine look. To that end, I'm knitting some new clothes, bit by bit, or finding other hand-made pieces.

Putting color up near the face , Like scarves, jewelry, is suppose to make you look prettier. Remember a bright shiny smile is our most attractive feature. xoxo,Susie

I agree with Susie and Theresa.

I think the seasonal transition puts most of in the mood for a change.

Good luck.

In July a friend of mine decided I needed a new wardrobe with some pizzaz. We shopped and she picked out outfits I never would have. But, I closed my eyes and paid. I got used to the look and like it.

Bottom line, get someone with more flamboyant taste or get a personal shopper - all the department stores have them. Good Luck.

We are the most critical of ourselves -- not wanting to be the odd gal out here -- but you are such a cool, positive, friendly person -- it really is what's inside that matters. Clothes and fashion change (boy, don't they!), but grace and sincere warm smiles are never out of style.

My young adult daughter has actually been my fashion enourager here of late. She's always had an "I'm my own person"-fashion style that I've admired. In my younger years, I was very concerned about what others thought. I'm learning to dress for myself...whatever makes me feel confident and comfortable.

Oh, you will have so much fun doing this. A couple of years ago, I focused a little more time and energy on my wardrobe, and I had a blast. I'm not as focused on fashion right now, but I'm thinking it's about time to buy at least one new outfit or one new tube of lipstick. You will have a blast. Enjoy!
