Please Come to My Reading Rescue

I love to read and one of the joys of my life -- besides reading itself -- is discussing books. I like the formal world of my book club, but I also like talking with friends, colleagues and even strangers about what they have enjoyed reading. One of the best book discussions I've ever had took place during my trip to Montana in May. I wandered into one of the great independent bookstores in Missoula and got into a conversation with the woman working there. She had been President of the American Booksellers Association and knew more about books than 99% of the people I've ever met. I'm still enjoying her recommendations.

A particular pleasure is choosing books for vacations. I'm not happy unless I have four or five books with me and I make my choices carefully. I need at least two books, often mysteries, for plane trips, as well as several others of varying genres. This trip will be the first trip with my kindle -- thanks K and Jess! -- and I need suggestions. I downloaded "A Discovery of Witches," and hoped that its 590+ pages would keep me all the way to Barcelona.  I peeked into the first few chapters, liked it so well that I've been reading almost non-stop on every subway ride and in the evenings. I need some recommendations to take with me. Dear friends, please come to my reading rescue.

I've been reading a lot of historical fiction set in England and have one mystery that takes place during the Restoration ready for the trip. I've also got a "A Tale of Two Cities," and will probably take "Jane Eyre" and "Emma," too. I've never read "Emma" and Jane Austen is always a good choice. I'm eager for any and all suggestions that you have.

Busy, happy weekend ahead. Besides packing I'm getting my hair cut, nails done and going to two weddings. One is tomorrow night and the other is Monday night. Tuesday we're off to Barcelona!

I hope to find some time tomorrow and Sunday for blog visiting. I definitely need to catch up.

Take good care and lots of sweet dreams!

I just finished "Water for Elephants" - I know I'm a few years behind - but I absolutely LOVED it! The newer "One Day" seems pretty great too, just got into it.

I'm always reading but haven't read anything spectacular in a while so I'm no help there. I do wish you a great weekend and a wonderful trip.

I just hopped over here from Ma's place. Have you read Rebecca by Daphne Demur ? can't spell worth a darn today, I have read it numerous times and have seen the original movie plus the weekly installments on educational tv. I think if you like Jane Eyre you will like this one. Of course all of us horse people are reading Pioneer Woman's new book Black Heels to Tractor Wheels a very fun fluffy real life story. You can check out her blog at Pioneerwoman.com. Have a wonderful trip!!!

Some popular fiction in our library have been authors like Karen Kingsbury, especially her "Oceans Apart". Francine Rivers is great, too - - - "Scarlet Thread", "Atonement Child", "Redeeming Love". Lynn Austin's - - "All She Ever Wanted", "Eve's Daughter's", "Hidden Places". Terri Blackstock's "Predator" is popular - - but a bit scary, too. However, all who use FB and Twitter should read it.
Non-fiction: "Same Kind of Different as Me" by Hall & Moore; Gracia Burnham - "To Fly Again" and if you like it, go back and read the first one, "In the Presence of My Enemies"; Any of the YWAM Christian Heroes - - Excellent.
Have fun.
Looking forward to hearing about the trip.

Hello,
I have enjoyed catching up on your blog now that I am back home again. You last post really does look like spring is coming.... and I am impressed that you can blog from your phone. I just got a phone that I can text on so that shows how far behind I am.

I read the series of Shadow Children books while we were traveling. My grandkids introduced them to me. They are very fast reading and interesting. I think there are 6 books in the series. I read one a day. I forget the author,...I think it is Margaret somebody... but the first book is call "Among the Hidden" and the last is called "Among the Free". Check them out.

Have a great trip. Happy reading.
Hugs, Lura

I recently read The Red Tent. I think I was way behind the crowd reading this book, but I found it captivating. Barcelona sounds FUN!
