All You Need Is Love and KC Football

I'm not the biggest fan of professional football. Actually I'd pretty much stopped following it when the Giants fell off the Superbowl radar. But that changed when I went to Kansas City in the fall. Though I haven't stopped hoping for a Giants resurgence, I kind of/sort of shifted my allegiance to the Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs-abilia was everywhere and pictures of Travis Kelce and Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were everywhere I turned. Though their relationship was in its early phases I predicted that it would go the distance.

Three months have gone by since I made that bold prediction. In not quite two weeks the Chiefs are going to the Superbowl and Taylor and Travis are still together. I'm still predicting that this golden couple will get married after the Chiefs win the Superbowl. Just remember, you read it here first.

From the (blurry) Buttercupland Archives

Back in 2014 I got to meet Justin Tuck, former defensive end for the Giants. It was part of a blogging promotion sponsored by our local drugstore chain. Amazingly ten years have gone by. The Giants haven't been in a Super Bowl, Justin Tuck has retired, but Buttercup keeps happily chugging on in Blogland.

In non-sports news, it's cold, but not icy and there's been lots of walking on my schedule. I've been remiss on posting about my 2023 Journey of 1000 Miles, so that will be my next post. It was a good walking year and I'm hopeful that 2024 will be equally energetic.

Thanks for all the good wishes on the Buttercupland Blogaversary. Much appreciated!

As ever, thanks for visiting. Keep cozy and take good care.

Extremely Random 5 Friday

Welcome to my little corner of Random 5 Friday. It's where I take all of the thoughts swirling in my head and try to come up with five cogent paragraphs. I don't know if I always make it, but I do have a good time, and I have a great time visiting with my Random 5 buddies. Now on to the big thoughts.

1) The week started with a difficult decision. Would I watch the Golden Globes or "Downton Abbey?" I was out to dinner with friends and missed the first hour of the Globes. I arrived home just in time for "Downton," and then switched over to the Globes. Definitely the most organized television evening I've had in years. Which did you choose?

2) I finally completed reading my first novel this year, "The World Without You," by Joshua Henkin. I enjoyed it a lot and found the story of a family mourning the loss of a son, husband and brother -- not unlike the journalist Daniel Pearl -- engaging and compelling. It's the first ebook I borrowed from the library and was so excited to see that the process worked. I've just borrowed "Matrimony" by the same author and I'm hoping I like it as well. "Bridget Jones" has gone home only slightly read to the library. Sorry, Bridget.

3) I'm starting to get excited about the Super Bowl coming to New York/New Jersey. I am sorry, sad, upset that my beloved Giants won't be playing, but I'm trying to move beyond that.

The subway system has Super Bowl excitement

4) There's a great giveaway in honor of the book, "The Headmistress of Rosemere." The link is in the upper right and it's definitely worth a click. I'll be writing about the book later this month.

5) I've been dreaming of attending  #sofabcon14 in Arkansas in May. I've never been to this conference, but it looks fabulous. But as much as I've been dreaming of the conference, the airfare has been a nightmare. I was thrilled to discover a giveaway for six all-expense paid trips to the conference. They will be looking for the most creative entries and I'm clearing my calendar to put together the most fun, creative and convincing blog post/video/painting I can. Arkansas, here I come! I've been dreaming of you.

Thanks so much for visiting. I hope you have a great long weekend and take good care!

It's Super Bowl Time in Buttercupland

Though football isn't my number one game, I manage to get swept into the Super Bowl fun, even if the Giants aren't playing. I was watching some of the commercial previews the other day and really had a good time. I was taken when I got an invitation to host a pre-Super Bowl viewing of the commercials from our friends at Hulu AdZone. Please stop by the link for a preview of this year's Super Bowl commercials.
If you stop by the link below tomorrow (noon to 6:00 p.m.) you can vote for your favorite ads in real-time and get a free month of Hulu Plus.  I'm a fan of Hulu and Hulu Plus -- which I haven't tried -- lets you stream your favorite television shows and movies.
Just click right here and you're in for game day fun!

 Baltimore or San Francisco?
It's turned cold and it's a quiet day in Buttercupland. Attended a fun retirement party at a Brazilian restaurant last night and I'm content to catch up on indoor things today. I will take a quick trip to the post office in a little while, then I expect to be home for the rest of the day. I've got a couple of recipes I'd like to try and some blog visits to make and a cup of tea with my name on it.
Wishes for a cozy Saturday!
