Welcome to Gramercy Park

The statue of Edwin Booth as Hamlet, by Edmond T. Quinn, was put in place at the center of Gramercy Park by the Players' Club in 1916

I've been back in New York City for over two weeks, but it's been tough getting back into my routine, which is apparent from my lack of posts this month. But the slow days of summer are over and the pace of life is picking up in the city and I'm going to pick up my blogging pace, too.

Last Friday when I made my visit to Hogwarts, I also made a visit to one of my favorite spots in Manhattan, Gramercy Park. Gramercy Park is a two acre private park -- one of two remaining in New York City -- established in 1831. The park is surrounding by private homes, apartment buildings and private clubs. The only people who have a key to the park are those who live around the park and pay an annual fee.

I don't have a key and this was as close as I got to the park

The photograph at the top of the post is looking north and the Chrysler Building is in the distance. I turned around and this is the view looking south and downtown.

I vote for this house on East 19th Street as the cutest house in Manhattan.
Do I hear a second? The house isn't on Gramercy Park, but the next street over.

I hope you've enjoyed our visit and this ramble around a corner of the city. I hope to do at least one ramble a week exploring different corners and sharing them with Buttercupland.

California friends, please take care of yourselves. Hoping that 110 degrees will soon be just an unpleasant memory.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care.

Sometimes, actually most times, it is great to explore close to home, even if some places are inaccessible. Who knows, maybe one day you will meet someone who has a key and lets you view Grammacy Park from the inside.

That’s so interesting! How great to be invited into that park….hope it happens for you sometime.
Yep, it’s scorching here in So Cal….but we are a hardly bunch and this summer has been simply lovely, just a bit warm.
Happy day to you, V.

I had heard of Gramercy Park, but didn't know much about it. I did not realize that it was a private park that required a key. Interesting. Here in Salt Lake City, where I live, it was 107 yesterday - a new all time record. Ugh. At least it is cooling off and will (hopefully) only be in the 90s today, with rain expected next week. Thanks again for this peek into the park. See you again soon!

Too bad it is private but I bet the folks living there appreciate have their own private place to visit Here we have yards that we make into our own private space but in a city like that there is not much option. I appreciate knowing the history behind it all. Thanks as always for sharing.

I love this time of year when the sky is such a beautiful blue because the humidity is less than in the summer months.
That house is adorable. It looks like it has skyscrapers on each side?

That is surely the cutest house in the area. Thanks for your cooling wishes for California. I am blessed to have cooling breezes from the ocean and it reached no more than 82 degrees at my house here in California. My friends who live near by and a bit inland are melting, they tell me. Temps over 100 are brutal. I look forward to more NYC photos from you, you find the best stuff.
