This is not a post about Marie Antoinette or the French Revolution. Rather it's an homage to one of the joys of life, cake. I like pie and cookies, and enjoy ice cream a lot, too, but my favorite dessert is cake. I like layer cake with gooey frosting. In the last six months I've made an effort to eat in a much more healthy manner, but when a perfect piece of cake is placed in front of me, I succumb without regret.
I celebrated wedding festivities with dear, dear friends in Brooklyn this weekend. There was a small and absolutely lovely luncheon on Saturday and a larger and equally festive reception on Sunday. At the luncheon on Saturday I resisted these magnificent banana walnut cinnamon buns...

Warm, yummy and dripping glaze. It was difficult to stop after one taste...Very difficult!
But when the cake arrived thanks to One Girl Cookies -- a beautiful white cake with buttercream frosting, I didn't resist a bite. It was rich and a perfect piece of cake worth every single delicious calorie. I thought of taking a photo when there were about three bites left, which doesn't make for a very attractive picture. I'm not sure if a wedding cake can be shipped, but I did note that the wonderful cookies can be ordered. They are as good as any I've ever had.
But I'm drifting off topic. We're here to talk cake and not cookies, no matter how good they may be. This is my ode to cake. My weekend cake saga continued with a dark, equally rich chocolate cake on Sunday. I skipped bread, chicken wings and an enticing array of appetizers because I knew there would be cake. Again, this slice of cake was worth every calorie.
That was my weekend, friends. Laughter, hugs, friends that are family and lots of love. But the icing on the cake was cake. I couldn't ask for more.
Are there other cake eaters in Buttercupland, or are you more devoted to cookies, ice cream or pie?
As ever, thanks for visiting. Wishes for a great week and let us eat cake!

Chocolate cake with fudge frosting........ sheer, decadent, heaven.
Any weekend which involves a delicious cake is a good weekend Carol! xoxo
Oh, I love cake! I prefer white, John loves chocolate. Mom used to bake a white cake with buttercream frosting that had lemon filling between the layers...so good!
Wishing you a wonderful day!
I love cake. It's not on my eating plan either but yesterday I allowed myself a treat and had a wonderful chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream frosting. So very good. One of my favorite cakes, is yellow cake with strawberries and whipped cream frosting!

Wish I could have seen that perfect cake, I could have day dreamed about it! I unfortunately love cake. Prefer homemade to packaged mixes or commercial, but in a pinch, well, A girl has to do what a girl has to do. I keep from eating it often or in large quantity only because of a health problem. 😑
Chocolate is my addiction. However, when there is cake with butter cream frosting, I'll pass up chocolate anytime. I love the corner piece because it has more frosting. Yum,
I'm most devoted to cookies, love love love them! But wedding cake I can never pass up, especially the traditional white one with cream filling and sugary frosting.
Oh dear. After reading this post I'm now headed to the kitchen to get a slice of cake. I have some white chocolate and cherry cake just waiting for me :)
Buttercup, I think that cookie are my all time weakness. Cake need ice cream too. I bet there's no shortage of temptations in your city. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Oh dear, it's a good thing that we haven't any cake in the house... just reading your words puts visions of triple layer chocolate cake in my head ~~ *giggle**.
I do love cake, but if I had to choose, it would be cookies for me.
Decadent chocolate chip cookies with walnuts, warm from the oven with a tall glass of frosty cold milk :)

Even though I feel that pies are the ultimate in desserts, I DO love cakes. My favorite is white cake with lemon filling and fluffy icing.
