On a Labor Day Theme...

...Does anyone still polish silver?

As a child one of my chores was polishing silver. I can't begin to estimate how many thousand pieces of silver I have polished over the decades. I am very fortunate to have family pieces and use them every day. But when company comes they always need a little polish to look as nice as they can. Friends joined me for dinner last night and as always, I spent part of yesterday afternoon polishing. When I mentioned it in the conversation during dinner, one of the guests remarked, "No one does that any more." My only response was "That's a blog topic," and one so appropriate for Labor Day.

On another Labor Day theme, a good time was had at dinner and I can't wait until my dishwasher arrives on Wednesday morning!

Wishes for a wonderful and relaxing Sunday!

I have a few pieces of silver and have a mit that does a great job with polishing. So glad that you use yours!

Sadly I don't own any silver that would require polishing ;)

Polish the silver (hard to do when you're born with one of the spoons in your mouth) -- IRON the sheets, pillowcases, and even the towels -- DUST -- WAX FLOORS -- sweep and sweep some more -- give all the jars of preserves a quarter-turn each morning -- braid hair, walk to school with books held by a bookstrap no matter the weather -- oh yes, I remember it all...

I remember helping my mom before the holiday functions polishing the silver......Now? I kind of like it all oxidized and a bit distressed. I'm on the fence on this one!

A DISHWASHER?????? What is THAT? LOL I don't have one in this old house,,,,it would involve taking out the original "lovely" cabinetry......Then? I saw "Nate Burkus sp?" Do a show on Oprah, where he installed one under the SINK in a little, I mean LITTLE apartment in NYC,,,,,,,,I thought, shoot, maybe I could get one of those!

I checked the cost,,,,,ahem, a couple grand,,,,,and it held about 3 plates and a couple of forks! I can afford one, but how silly would that be? Not going to happen....I have to hand wash everything. Oh well!

Hugs and love Missy! Tarnish and all!

I have packed my silver away, never use it anymore but I inherited such pretty pieces I should be ashamed. I will pass these pieces on to family members but right now no one wants them. What a lazy generation.....:-) Hugs

My dishwasher is at the ends of my wrists. I couldn't give up cabinet space to house one. :-)

I have a lot of silver jewelry and watches so I have to polish them but sadly, I have no table silver. I so wish I did. Only nickle- silverware that I inherited from my grandmother.

I smiled greatly at your comment on the Admiral's blog stating you'd wear Kevlar gloves when visiting her. I guess she did come across as a diva. I should obey the tail..that was my mistake. :-) Thank you for coming by.

I polished a few pieces today! I really love silver and though I like the look of tarnished pieces in some blog pics I have seen, I prefer mine as bright as these fingers can get them.

Jane mentions a mit... I wonder what that is?
