My mother and me, January 1951
I'm back from a too quick trip to Austin, TX and the wonderful BlogHer Food 2016. I'm still sorting out my thoughts and photographs of the conference, but I promise at least several posts on the conference, Austin and the food of Austin. Definitely the coffee of Austin will be featured. But tonight Yom Kippur -- the Day of Atonement and remembrance -- begins and today is my mother's birthday. I'm going to delay my posts on Austin and focus on remembering.
It's hard to fathom that my mother would be 102 today. She died twenty-six years ago, but her voice goes through my mind often. I no longer reach for the phone to call her, but I think of things throughout every day that I'd like to share with her. Alas. I can't in person.
Once again, today and every day, I remember my mother with so much love. I am a very fortunate daughter.

This is such a sweet photo! Thinking of you on this special day.
I remember your mother fondly. I have great memories of her kitchen in Hartford. I think we always have the inclination to want to pick up the phone, regardless of how much time has gone by!
Sounds like you had a wonderful mom, and fond memories of her.
Lovely picture of you and your mom.
We never really quit missing our loved ones, but I have found that time helps ease the sadness of missing them so profoundly.
Sending warm thoughts to you...

What a nice picture to have to remember your mom. I have a picture of my parents in my family room and there is not a day that goes by that I don't look at them. Your mom is a part of you and will remain with you forever.
What a sweet picture of you and you Mama! I miss mine too! Have a blessed and beautiful FALL day, HUGS!
Two friends from my childhood recently sent me a photo of my mother taken when she was about 17. I had never seen any photo of her other than as an adult--so this is a really special gift!
Blessings on you as you celebrate your special holy day!
A wonderful tribute to your mom. It's hard to lose them but the good memories are a treasure for sure.
The Bonnet...my Mother loved bonnets on her baby girls...Happy Birthday to your Mom...Just realized this evening started the observance of Yom Kippur...seems like the Jewish holidays were later this year and further apart...but being retired has changed how I view all the days of the week...Great picture Carol
Carol, I know that feeling of wanting to share with your mother. I loved seeing the picture of her holding you in your cute baby outfit. Maybe on mother's day you could post a nice story of your mother to share with all of us. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
May we display your header on our new site directory. As it is now, the site title (linked back to your home page) is listed, and we think displaying the header will attract more attention. In any event, we hope you will come by and see what is going on at SiteHoundSniffs.com.
Sweet thoughts. Thanks for sharing. Many of us understand.
Beautiful thoughts about your mom. I do understand. I have a large canvas of my mom in our bedroom and when I walk by it often I look at her and think how many things I would like to tell her. Joyful Hugs, Anne
