Perhaps My Final Televsion Appearance

Not that I made television appearances or had a television career, but I've been an enthusiastic member of the audience on a number of television shows that are broadcast from New York. I've slacked off lately, but decided I would resume going to shows again in 2016. On February 1 and 2 I may be seen in the audience at the Meredith Vieira Show. I also may not be seen. I'm going to be tough to find in the audience, even though I am wearing a hot pink sweater, honoring the request to wear bright, solid color clothing.

I was near the end of the group entering the seating area, but I was excited when I saw a single seat on the aisle. It was at the back of the room, but I always enjoy aisle seats. Perfect viewing spot...but the Entertainment Co-ordinator didn't think so. He asked not one, not two, but three people to move and placed me close to the blue wall on the right, just about out of camera range. You may espy a still cute senior citizen in a hot pink sweater on the far side of the audience, but most likely you won't. The camera rarely got over that far. Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive, and I try not to look for slights, but the issue put a damper on the day.

Because I'm Buttercup I'd be remiss not to point out the high points. Dermot Mulroney is even better looking in person and Mario Cantone is even funnier in person. For now, though, I'm taking a hiatus from my television career. I think I'll stick to books.

I'm fully stocked up for the looming snow storm. I have enough food to last for at least a week, though I am sure I will stop in at least one store tomorrow for some "must have." I have very few plans for the weekend and several books I'm hoping to read.

As ever, thanks for visiting. Friends in Virginia and the North Carolina, stay safe and all, keep cozy.

Oh dear, Buttercup is taking a hiatus from her television appearances. Well, its their own darn fault for not keeping you in that aisle seat.

That is disappointing. I don't watch tv so I won't be able to look for you anyway.

I hope you stay safe and warm, we are looking at 18 inches give or take a few inches either way. Enjoy your books!

Carol, my two brushes with television left me with a bad taste in my mouth, especially when I realised how very contrived the things which we see are. They missed a real gem putting you out of camera range! I would be miffed also! xoxo

My friends and I like to make it a day in NYC and take in a show, then go for lunch. In November we went to see Meredith Veiera also. We were at the end of the line and were split up from sitting together. I was placed way up in the back. There were seats open together and I saw them splitting up others that came in together also. It put a damper on the experience for me and my friends. I totally understand how you felt!

Awww...that stinks. Are you preparing for the snow?

Funny how different TV looks from the other side of the camera. I did some TV spots on local television as part of my job years and years ago--cooking segments. Even crazier is being in the audience of live radio. We were in the audience for Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion show once. It will never sound the same again!

PS Every time I visit here, I find myself humming "Build Me Up Buttercup" for hours afterward. :-)

I would love to be in the audience for some of the shows I watch:) Someday, I will! We have only been to one taping of Family Feud which is taped in Atlanta! Enjoy your day dear friend, stay safe and warm! HUGS!

After waiting online for three and a half hours for Rachael Ray, I lost all desire. They are soooo prejudiced against older people. It is ALL about the 18-49 group. Even though many in that group don't cook! haha. It was a boring show, no good take away gifts. I wanted to see Wendy Williams, but, nah, I can do without it. There are a couple on the West Coast, though, if I actually got tickets, I would fly out! Kimmel, The Talk, Ellen. My friends and I were seen when the camera scanned the entire group. For like, a second!

Aw, those absurd people - they missed their chance to show the Queen of Buttercupland. Their loss, and a foolish choice to try to marginalize older people! I think it will come back and bite them in the pocketbook some day.

What does HE know, telling you where to sit.

That would be so fun to go to the taping of a TV show. I watch Meredith every day. But her show started down the tube with the round table discussions (in my opinion). Hope you are snug and tucked in during the big snow storm!

Sorry about your TV experience.

Stay safe and warm.

Buttercup, I sometimes think they only want very young types in camera view. I wish it would have been more fun. I am thinking of you this evening...hope you do not get that much snow as Al Roker's been saying. Stay safe. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie

Just found your blog! I actually made an appearance on the Meredith show. You can see it, if you care, on the side of my blog. Meredith is so nice and personable. I would trade my 30 seconds of fame for one glance of Dermot Mulroney in the flesh. Have a great weekend.

I hope that you are warm and cosy, nestled in with a book and staying OUT of the storm!

That feels so rotten, on so many levels!
True, I think the majority of ad shops are enamored by the 18-49 demographic; but personally, I don't know a lot of 18-49'ers who are fortunate enough to stay home and watch daytime TV.
OK, I'm going off-topic!

What I was hoping to say, instead of pointing fingers at Viera's production folks, I'd voice my concerns to their coveted advertisers.

I hope you made it through the storm okay! We are having fun because the snow is a novelty for us.

Sorry your TV career hasn't taken off! :)

Keep going to the shows for the fun of it. If they try to move you, draw yourself up and look them in the eye and ask if they are discriminating against seniors? You might get to keep the seat you chose! I was an audience member at the Disney Christmas Parade (I should blog about it!) I taped it and watched it days later. The massive amount of snow confetti obliterated me and everyone around me! I have some great photos though!
