Let's Have Another Cup of Coffee

A cup for you and a cup for me.

There's been a lot of chatter about Starbucks' seasonal coffee cup. It's a red cup and it doesn't have much festive design. There's even been a call for a boycott of Starbucks. I can't do much of a boycott of Starbucks. I stop there on an average of every six months and I was just there for my bi-yearly visit on Monday at the Miami Airport. I'm not due for another visit until the spring. I've got nothing against Starbucks, but I don't especially like their coffee and their flavored drinks are too sweet for me and too pricy.

Be that as it may, enough about coffee cups. Enough. Make your coffee at home and pick the cup you like best. I'm going with these mugs I brought back from Italy almost fifteen years ago. One way to make a difference in the world is to take the cost of a fancy-dancy drink at Starbucks and donate the amount to a cause you care about. Since today is Veteran's Day, you might choose one that works with veterans.

The song "Let's Have Another Cup of Coffee" by Irving Berlin has been swirling in my mind during this coffee cup brouhaha. It was written in 1932, when for many people just having five cents for a cup of coffee wasn't always possible. I looked up the verses and found this line:

Things that really matter
Are the things that gold can't buy

True in 1932 and true in 2015. So let's have another cup of coffee, my friends, and put the focus on things that really matter. It's not coffee cups.

I haven't forgotten that it's Veterans Day and wanted to share this picture of my father and his army buddies at Fort Sill during World War II.

Thanks, Daddy, and all who served and those who are serving our country today.
My deepest gratitude.

As ever, thanks for visiting and if you're visiting New York, the coffee's on me.

Is it the Internet, do you think, that allows these foolish "controversies" to mushroom? So much clutter to fill our heads with.
Be careful or the Citrus Council may be after you for not bringing orange, lime, and grapefruit mugs home from Italy!!!

i was wondering about the whole Starbucks red cup coffee hoopla going on?? i go usually when they have a new drink. i did get the pumpkin spice to see if it changed from other years & really found nothing new or exciting. i loved their graham cracker one ... don't recall the right name. it was super sweet. i usually think of it as a dessert, i can not imagine going daily or even weekly. i go ... wow ... seasonally i guess ... the war friends picture below. great shot. That's a good message for today. I walked by a Starbucks in the mall today and there was actually a line. I came home and had a cup of my own coffee in my favorite mug and hubby and I discussed this very subject. Enjoy your week sweet friend. Hugs, Diane

I really can't believe that a red cup without snowflakes or stars is causing a fuss. This has to be something that is started by the media. Nobody else cares, and why should we.

I do happen to like Starbucks but really controversy over a cup is going overboard...I'm with you lets have another cup of coffee. Warm and friendly and good to the last drop!

I agree Carol!

I don't go there much, a couple of times with my girls, but I get tea, and it's not that good there. My husband a coffee lover doesn't like the taste of their coffee, nor does he want to pay a lot. He'd rather drink organic coffee at home. Much more affordable.

I am not a Starbucks fan...too pricey and the companies(s) political views are not mine. Coffee and politics ought not mix, just saying, lol. ANYWAYS---thanks for the smiles...have a beautiful day. Blessings

I thought that was the silliest thing ever! Who gets upset over coffee cup colors and designs! Love the picture of your Dad and his Buddies!

Well said. This "brew haha" (I'm quite proud of coming up with that) blew up the day we visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I was grateful to have a life full enough to not get involved with all the silliness.

When I met my husband, he used to stand in line at Starbucks every day for coffee. I showed him how to make his own...he actually believed (and he's a smart guy) that Starbucks knew something we didn't!! Once he started brewing his own, he hardly ever went into the Starbucks again. He also couldn't believe how much cheaper it was to drink coffee made at home! Of course, he did end up buying a fancy grinder...

Well said, Carol. On my way to San Diego, I stopped in Yuma at Starbucks and the clerk took my order and my name. Mary I said. He was a fun guy, asking me "Is that with one R or two?" Loved his humor. My favorite coffee is at home too and once in a while it's fun to go out for it. Have a great day.

Your cups from Italy are beautiful. My favourite coffee is made at home and I'm not a fan of Starbucks. The picture of your Dad is great. Hugs to you.

When people start boycotting over a coffee cup, they don't have enough positive things to do! How do these "controversies" even get started? I like the old photo of your Dad and his Army buddies.

I actually can't remember the last time I stopped at a Starbucks. Could be a couple of years. I don't understand what all the fuss is about their red cups. I guess other people read more into it than I do.

Always remembering our Veterans with appreciation for their service!

I don't go there often but when I shop at my Target store they have one inside and often will give you a dollar off coupon so I enjoy a Chai tea. When will people stop the silliness of these red cups? Goodness, life is short and so much more is important. I am only offended when they drag Christians through the mud claiming they are the ones who hate those cups! Again, nothing to me and you said this very well. Plus I see that Dunkin Donut is going for the white cup with holly berries and Joy and their coffee is tastier to me! Take care dear friend.

As for your dad, what a wonderful gentleman he was serving our nation so well. All his buddies too! My cousin has one son, Julian in the USArmy and he currently is waiting to head over to Afghanistan. I ask for prayers for him too. Thank you. :-)
