It's Time to Dress for Fall

My favorite park gets dressed for fall.

There are fabulous parks in New York City. But I most often find myself in this little postage stamp of a park, just off of Broadway at 63rd Street. It's half a block from my gym and half a block from the bus stop. It's the perfect spot to drink a cup of coffee, read and enjoy being outside, and it's right in the middle of the neighborhood. I'm there three or four times a week until it's too cold to sit outdoors, even with gloves and a winter coat.

This is the perfect time for park visits. It's not too hot and not too cold and the folks who maintain it do a great job in dressing it for autumn. I was there last week when the colors changed. I had my iced coffee -- with just a splash of pumpkin spice -- and the new Sue Grafton mystery "X" and I was about as happy as could be.

So enjoyed seeing the first mums of the season.

My happy urban oasis

This morning there was a snap of cool in the air. It was the first day in months when I thought "I should have worn a jacket," when I went outside. As much as I don't like to rush the seasons I am excited about the autumn. I'm eager for mums and fresh apples, pumpkins and the change of leaves. Yes, it's time to dress for fall.

What are your favorite autumn moments? Football, pumpkin spice, Halloween? Please share as we dress for autumn. I'm especially happy to welcome bloggers visiting from Commentathon. Thanks so much for stopping by.

The phrase, "It's time to dress for fall..." is from the song "The Summer Knows" from the movie "Summer of  '42." It was released in 1971 and starred Jennifer O'Neill. Memories...

As always, thanks for visiting and take good care.

Making soup. It always feels good to use my left-over veggies and sometimes meat to make something hardy and healthy.

Just yesterday I manage to dress the front porch for fall. I have a scarecrow, some fall leaves and a cute pumpkin face out there now. Also put out the door mat with some fall leaves on it. We have had some summer like weather for the most part but chilly nights are slowly but surely creeping in.

I am a tiny bit familiar with that area, but haven't seen that park. When we had our store we parked on 31st between 6th and 7th, and shopped the wholesale jewelry stores from 31st down to 28th, and between 7th and 5th. We ate at Speedy's on the corner of 5th and 32nd every trip! There was a park type place right across from there but your park looks a bit bigger.

I am enjoying the fall too! I wore boots on Sunday, as it was a cool day and my friend laughed because she is
'holding on to summer' and had sandals on! :)

Enjoy the beauty while you read today!

That looks like a quiet spot in the city. I've been wearing layers at altitude for several weeks now. Our weather never follows the calendar. However, the aspens are changing now and that signals fall for us.

Sipping a coffee in that park among all those beautiful fall flowers sounds amazing!! Hot drinks, cozy sweaters, apple orchards and pumpkin patches are my favorite parts of fall :)

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Not too hot and not too cold. I love Fall festivals and the beauty of the changing colors.

Fall mums are always so pretty. - Also those decorative cabbages are cool and colorful too.

I am in San Diego so I would love a bit of crispness to the air and some rain.

To celebrate fall, I stop buying summer produce and look forward to honey crisp apples and pears. I also love pumpkin spiced coffee beverages.

We are in early spring in this part of the world.
A change in season is always nice, whichever way
it is headed. Once you have been through one season,
I always look forward to the next.

I love Halloween and anything associated with it. I love spiced, warm cider and going to town fairs. I am a fall baby and love the time of year, but I do wish we can skip winter.

I love everything about fall, especially the fall foods and of course the cooler air. It is my favorite season of the year. So many great childhood memories also of things that went on in the fall.

I'm Caitlin...even though the google thing is saying Eda. Anyway, I love that you posted pictures of the mums--I've always wondered what those look like! :) As for me, apples with caramel dip is one of our favorite mother-daughter traditions! I'll have to start thinking of some others...the season is officially upon us! :)

I miss having fall and winter. I'm from California where we joke about not having seasons, but compared to Florida, I feel like there was freezing cold and burning hot. Here it's completely one temperature all year long.

Aw, that does look pretty blissful. I personally struggle when summer ends and fall begins. I'm all about the heat. I like to read about how much others enjoy the fall though, it helps me remember that there are good things in all the seasons.

I like Halloween and watching the leaves change. I still need to dig out all our fall/winter clothing.

I am such a summer person and a little sad that fall has begun. But I will say that what I like about fall is the opportunity for some cooler days and my love of sweatpants. The changing of leaves are also cool but that doesn't last long unfortunately.

I wish it was time to start dressing for fall in Southern California. It's hitting 100 this week.

Oh my, the movie Summer of 42 brings back some memories. I keep going back to look at those beautiful mums. Autumn is the best time of year.

Your park looks so inviting! I would be sipping hot chocolate and either reading a book (from my huge stack I still want to read) or working on my next book (writing by hand). We've had way too much heat this summer (Pacific NW). While there are days I don't want the rain, we NEED the rain and our mountains really NEED the SNOW! I've bookmarked your lovely blog and will return. Your post here is making me want to go to a park tomorrow! :) ~Adrienne

I'm going to miss summer, because it was so deliciously hot and fun in the Pacific Northwest. But I do like the colors of fall (as long as it's not raining). My boyfriend did a lot of great work on our property and we'll be buying plants soon and I can't wait!

Your photos are gorgeous!!! I love the fall. Although summer is my favorite season, I've always enjoyed the color changes of all the different trees. It's an awesome time to take a few extra outdoor walks/runs.

I love, love, love fall! We are having our last heat wave out here in Utah - but I'm dying to break out some fall clothes and start the yummy soups, etc. in the crock pot! Lovely photos!

I am so enjoying your photos. Deep down in my heart, I want to go that park! :D

Although I don't like to say Goodbye to summer, I love Fall! My favorite thing about this season is going to the Mountains with my family to enjoy all the colors (I live in Virginia). And of coarse fall cooking and baking!

I usually hate Fall, because I love summer, and Fall signals the end of summer :( but this year, I decided to embrace Fall. I made a Fall wreath (first time Ever), and got some pretty mums to brighten my front door :)

What a darling park! I love going to local parks too, although I usually have to drive to them...lol!
Autumn is my favorite season even though in Southern California, you'd never know the season changed! today it's about 90 degrees...geesh!

Sure, we might get the occasional orange leaf or crisp breeze...but I will take what I can get!

My favorite autumn things are pumpkin spice lattes, scarves, boots, warm soup, pumpkin patches, crisp weather, sweaters & family get-togethers!

Happy Autumn to you! :)

Oh I wish I had seen this park when I was in NY this summer. I do love fall and all of the colors it brings when the leaves change. I am most looking forward to cooler weather so I can make soups!!

I like the excitement of back-to-school. I like those last sunny nights, but I am always a little sad when the Summer weather ends.

I love the crisp, fresh air of fall. We live in Wisconsin so I also love all the trees changing colors...love it when everything is red, yellow and orange. I also love the smell of apple cider even though I don't really like drinking it:)

Ahh Autumn...I live in San Diego right now, so Autumn feels like summer here. I LOVE IT! I am originally from NYC so honestly not missing the chill in the air feeling. But, I would say that Autumn for me is all about the start of Football! It's a great way to end the summer where I don't follow many sports and can pick up with the joys of the football season. Love it!

There's nothing like the buzz of a big city and all the cool nooks and crannies that the insiders know! I love those city parks. I'm more of a warm weather lover. I think my favorite fall clothing are warm pajamas to snuggle up in at night :)

What a beautiful park, and mums! I must confess though, when you mentioned "X", I had to hop right over to Amazon and buy it! I can't believe I missed the release, I normally have her books on pre-order as soon as they are announced, haha. Thanks for the heads up;)

I am decidedly NOT a fall person but I love the photos and the idea of cute little parks in the middle of urban areas, being a Boston girl. I totally get it and appreciate the beauty and the space of quiet sparks of tranquility. Thank you for sharing yours! :)

Thank you for sharing your urban oasis. I love finding beautiful spots to sip a latte and watch the changing colors. I like going to our state fair (NC), watching and attending football and soccer games, visiting pumpkin patches and trick-or-treating with my kids.

Goodness, I remember that Jennifer O'Neill movie! Sigh!

I need some leggings and tunic tops since I am home these days....I have lots of good shoes for the cooler weather and boots too! I like tights under jumpers as well for the fall and winter.

It is suppose to be in the 80s this weekend. I am hopeful we can go to fort Hayes, Kansas and watch Nick run...
