It's Christmas Time in the City -- Christmas Decorating Ideas from Madison Avenue

After the thrill of seeing the windows at Bergdorf Goodman I crossed Fifth Avenue and walked one block to Madison Avenue. I was about to enter one of the great shopping streets in the world. There are many expensive jewelers, fashion houses -- Chanel and Hermes have stores here -- and high-priced boutiques. I enjoy walking on these blocks very much, but for the non-high style self that I am these are looking blocks, not shopping blocks. I like to look and take pictures and enjoy all the goodies in the windows, at no cost.

The trees on Madison Avenue are wrapped in blue lights.

There were some fabulous decorations -- for posts to come -- and some very simple decorations. I was especially interested in some of the very simplest and realized that there were ideas that could work very well at home.

This display at Dolce&Gabbana caught my attention. I did look at the mannequins, but the array of plaster goodies arranged for a Christmas party was of more interest. I'm not sure about getting plaster goodies, but there are candles that would work well and carry out a yummy theme without a lot of fuss and expense.

I found these decorations framing the window of a shoe store. It was a collection of easy to find ornaments and trimmings, with pine cones that had been sprayed white.  It made for a very pretty wintry scene.

This is one of my favorite stores for looking, Fred Leighton. They have a beautiful collection of antique jewelry, of which many pieces could be in museums. I can dawdle along the sidewalk on this block for a long time. Since the jewelry are the real attractions they kept the decorations very simple. The white branches on the right are sprayed white and adorned with tiny red berries, with pine cones and greenery at the base.

I will be putting out my Christmas snow globes and snow men in the next few days. Pepe will  be changing into his Father Christmas clothing and he and his friends may again be gracing the mantel this year. I am still thinking about the décor for my apartment. What are your decorating plans this year?

Speaking of Pepe and the season, Pepe has chosen the blog names for The Sock Twins.  In honor of this festive season, Lucas and Claus, have been picked. They were suggested by Taryterre, who will be receiving a book for her creativity.  Pepe will not be choosing the book. Taryterre, I will be in touch. Thanks to all for your fun suggestions!

I spent a good part of today doing errands. I'm not sure where all of these errands come from -- library, drugstore, bank -- but they seem to pop up like weeds. I am grateful that I can do them during the day and grateful, too, that the day was warm and I could walk everywhere I needed to go. What a treat for December.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care!

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures. I especially love the glittery white Christmas things. I am not in the mood for decorating this year but we will put up a tree....for the kids! Although they aren't little (14 & 16) the still want a tree.

Window shopping is always fun. And what could be sweeter than snow globes. I'm excited Lucas and Claus will be joining Pepe on the mantel. I will love the book, I'm sure. I appreciate it more than you know. I have sent you my information. Thanks in advance.

It would be nice to be able to walk and do the errands. Here I have to drive just about everywhere as not much at all is in walking distance. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday !

Oh, I just LOVE that bed in the Dolce and Gabbana window!

So much time and creativity goes into each display.
Nice little bits of inspiration for Christmas decorating **smile**.

Yes, it certainly is a treat for you to see the displays, and have the good health and good weather to walk and accomplish your errand list.
