Who Wears Short Shorts?

I found myself in Midtown Manhattan in the heart of the business district going to the dentist this morning. It was before eight o'clock and not particularly hot, but I noticed a few women wearing shorts, not necessarily short shorts, but shorts. In a sort of stream of consciousness way I realized I couldn't remember the last time I wore shorts. Maybe last summer visiting friends who live on the St. Lawrence River, a shorts wearing environment. I'm not especially formal at all, but shorts seem -- for me -- a little casual in Midtown Manhattan. The advent of the cropped pants, a little longer and more covered up, have replaced shorts in my wardrobe. It was a transformation that I hadn't even noticed, but it happened. Has anyone else shed shorts from their wardrobe?

  Not my wardrobe anymore

Another item that I have bid farewell to is the sleeveless shirt. I am not a fashion blogger and this is not a Glamour "dos and don'ts" -- remember them? -- but I don't feel comfortable exposing my arms for all the world to see. I'm a sleeves girl.

But I'm also upbeat and I don't want to do a post that might only be percieved as critical. In the same wildly popular store -- people were waiting at the doors for the store to open this morning -- I found some very cute things that I do like and could be added to my wardrobe.

The raincoat especially caught my eye and I like the big sweaters. I'm not sure if they're my colors, but I thought the grey would look good with my black jeans and they were the right price.

"Who wears short shorts? We wear short shorts!"

This song has been buzzing through my head all day. I couldn't have told you the year it was recorded or the group that recorded it, but luckily there's Google. It was recorded by The Royal Teens in 1957. "Short Shorts" became a #3 hit in 1958 and lives today in the brains of baby boomers.

It's farewell to July and on to August. I've got a new project I'm debuting tomorrow. Please stop by and join me for #oneaDayThanks. It previews tomorrow.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take very good care.

I with you on the sleeves and shorts. I do not even wear cropped pants anymore since my knees were scoped. Ugly scars on them.

Growing up I was always very skinny. I have never shown my arms!!! No shorts for me, either. College girlfriends teased me that I needed a very old fashioned swim suit!!!

I wear shorts usually at home but if I'm in the city it is usually capri's! It's the really young girls that are wearing very short shorts now and the tank tops. Have a nice weekend.

I still have some shorts, but rarely where them any more unless it's a very hot day and I'm at home. Same with sleeveless tops. I'm developing what they call a farmer's tan this summer. You can tell where my shirt sleeves end. Ha! Strange how our wardrobes change.

Buttercup, I used to wear short-shorts. But I had killer legs back then. I stop wearing shorts when I thought it was not for someone my age, unless you are at the lake. I wear capris lots. I wear leggings and I do wear a shirt long enough to cover the hinny area when I do. I think anyone can wear leggings , as long as that rump is covered. I am like you in the lines of not wearing shorts to town, well not short ones. LOL. I love the trench coat and the gold color. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Well..I am pleasantly plumped & and I wear khakis or jeans shorts, not short shorts like I see these people wear. They fall right above the knee, right below the thigh. I also like those carpi's too. ANYWAYS..great post, thanks for the chuckle. Blessings

I remember the song well! I only wear shorts in the house, capris the rest of the time. And no way with sleevless tops, those days are over! Happy August!

Who wears long shorts, I wear long shorts! But no shorts in NYC for me. However, I love comfort and wear sleeveless tops, even in NYC and especially with the hot, sunny days.

I grew up in shorts. To me they're something for young people, no longer suited for me with my legs. I want to look good when I go out, which means no shorts, no tank tops, no T shirts-- regardless of the weather.

I don't wear shorts when I go out and about. I do wear them to exercise at home, but I always change my clothes before going out (not sure why).

I like the capri pants but use shorts for running or walking my weekend mile each Saturday and Sunday!
