Ketchup, Mustard and Mayo

Now that I'm at home a lot more than I was a year ago I have more time to actually read articles on Facebook. This article from the "Good Housekeeping" Magazine blog caught my attention. Mayonnaise is now the largest selling condiment in the United States, have passed up long-time favorite, ketchup. Actually, salsa passed ketchup twenty years ago, but salsa is being considered as a dip and not a condiment, which led the way for mayo to take top place in the condiment hit parade.

My refrigerator -- mustard, coconut water and champagne. Always ready for a party.

This is not apparent from my refrigerator. There are two mustard containers -- I love mustard and put it in just about everything -- a jar of tomato chutney and salsa. There's no mayo or ketchup. I've got nothing against the most popular condiments. I like mayo in tuna fish salad and from time to time I can be found dipping my french fries in ketchup, but mustard is my go-to condiment. It's far down on the list of popular condiments that follow mayo and ketchup;  soy sauce, barbecue sauce and hot sauce.

Am I the only one out of step on mayo and ketchup? Are there any other mustard fans in Buttercupland? It's Condiment Tuesday. Please share your condiment favorites.

Happily we have a day off from snow today and I'm going to meet a work friend for lunch. The sun is shining and I'm off to Westchester.  As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care.

John loves mustard. Mustard gives me indigestion so I stick with mayo and ketchup.

I throw out condiments all the time because their expiration date comes about when they are half full. I do love salsa though and put it on anything I can.

I'm really, really been trying to use more mustard (vs. mayo) in my everyday lunches. Unfortunately, my habit used to be so strong, someone once remarked, 'You'd like a little burger with your mayonnaise?'

My son likes to dip little squares of cheddar cheese in a dollop of mustard ... not bad!

I am not a huge fan of mayonnaise, though I do use it for salads, etc. Mustard is my choice as well! Your refrigerator looks super! You have given me incentive to clear out mine!

Dear Carol,
I am a mustard fan too!!!
I don't have mayo in my refrig..
Mayo has gotten a bit too expensive and I am doing just fine without.
Mustard is great because it does come in such a large variety and I like trying the different flavors.
Also, it is much more affordable.
I do keep ketchup but mainly for making dipping sauce with horseradish and such.
Stay warm and cozy and safe with the coming storms.
Blessings dear. Catherine xo

I like both mayo and mustard but now thinking about it I'd have to say I use mustard more often.

I seem the odd one out on this one. I keep mustard in my fridge but rarely use it. I am a mayo fan. We are having some major snow falling here in Ohio this evening...more through tomorrow they say. Hope you enjoyed a lovely day out there.

I like them all, depending on what I'm eating. Ketchup for fries, mustard and mayo on sandwiches and burgers. Mustard is probably better for you than mayo.

Now I'm hungry! :-)

I do like them all, but I am especially fond of Hot Honey Mustard. I just love the stuff. I could eat it with a spoon!

I too love mustard! I use it instead of mayo on sandwiches:) We also use spicy brown mustard a good bit! Ketchup is always in my fridge, for french fries and meatloaf! Enjoy your day dear friend! HUGS!

I'll take the Champagne!
I'm not a Ketchup fan at all or Mayo for that matter either. I will mix them though and I like that. Mustard is okay, BBQ I love.

I love mayo but I like most condiments . I often put 2 or three on a sandwich and even more on a hotdog ... Mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish and onions.... Yummy... Maybe I will go have that for breakfast.... Just kidding. Hugs, Lura

Like you, I love mustard! My all-time favorite. I love to try new kinds, and my current favorite is Stonewall Kitchen roasted garlic. It is yummy. I don't really care for mayo.. only on tuna or egg salad, never on a burger! I'm rather old fashioned with my burgers, and only like ketchup, mustard and dill relish.. :)

The bottle of champagne looks good to me.

It's good you prefer mustard because it is healthier than mayo or ketchup. My husband and younger daughter think everything should be covered in ketchup. On sandwiches I prefer a vinaigrette dressing and have even started doing that for pasta salads. We don't eat much mayo at all anymore. It has decreased over the years.
