Snowy Sunlit Sunday

Central Park, with the Metropolitan Museum in the background.

My sunlit thought this week doesn't derive from the sun, which has been largely absent. Rather it's from my much more sunny attitude about the snow. I'm not a fan of snow. I worry much too much about falling and breaking one or another bone. I broke my elbow in four places eighteen years ago in a sleety curb cut, so it's not an anxiety without some basis. I look out on the snow and see only ice, falling and difficulty walking to the subway or grocery. I see a foot of snow being an Alp I have to climb to get on the bus. I see disaster with every snowy moment.

But not this afternoon. This afternoon I saw the beauty of fresh snow in Central Park. I'm not quite sure how Google does this, but they've enhanced my picture to show falling snow and I'm in love with it. There was an inch of soft snow. It wasn't difficult to walk and it seemed almost magically that the sidewalks were cleared. I'm so happy and grateful to find at least one upbeat, sunny moment in snow.

I'm delighted to join my friends at Sunlit Sunday. I think it's my best discovery of 2014. I had a wonderful afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum and enjoyed seeing a beautiful exhibition of Italian glass. Now I'm settling in for my evening hot cocoa and a good book. Book review to follow tomorrow.

As always thanks for visiting and take good care. Wishes for a very cozy evening.  .

Good for you to have a sunny disposition about the snow, as I'm sure there is lots more to come before winter is over. I really like the falling snow effect on your photo.
I'm visiting from Karen's Sunlit Sunday.

Lovely picture! We had a brief moment with snow showers earlier today, but they stopped almost as soon as they had begun. It sounds like a most enjoyable time for you today. An evening with hot cocoa and a book sounds perfect!

It looks beautiful with snow on Central Park. I'm glad you appreciated the snowy beauty as a sunny moment. When I visited NYC 2 years ago I didn't get to Central Park. I was only there for 4 days and they were very busy ones. It's raining here in New Brunswick tonight but will be turning very cold before dawn. I'll be careful when I walk in it. I don't want to fall either.

Your afternoon and evening sound fabulous. About the snow photo, is that a sculpture of 2 small animals? Or animals posing for you?

When it snows I worry about falling and hurting myself too. But it's nice to know once you get past that, you can enjoy the beauty. LOVE your picture.

EW! I'm so sorry you had such a bad fall. Even though it happened a long tome ago, clearly the memory is still fresh. Your snow photo is very pretty - new snow is truly gorgeous, at least in my eyes. ;))

Yes, snow and ice can be dangerous as well as beautiful. I've learned to walk very gingerly outside in the wintertime. The next few will be spent mainly indoors as we go back in the deep freeze here thru Wednesday. Take good care!

Beautiful photo...love the snow falling like that. I don't blame you for your concern over the snow and ice in the wintertime. Yes, Carol it can be dangerous...as you found out years ago. So glad you're being cautious and that you were able to enjoy your day!

Blessings,
Gert

You've brought back some pleasant memories of my one visit to Central Park (I need to return); I was astounded at the size of it and enjoyed seeing the "Alice in Wonderland" sculpture, among other things.

I had assumed that you added the fun falling snow effect to your photo, but see that it was a pleasant surprise for you as well!

Thank you for the kind words about Sunlit Sunday, Carol. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I love the falling snow and the effect it gives to those things around it. But when the fingers are numb from the cold I do hope for spring! Have a grand day! Cathy

Buttercup, I do have done a triple axle into the splits on ice before...broke my ankle bone, it spiraled, making a nasty fracture. That was a few years ago...now I scoot my feet like Tim Conway. I have missed visiting your blog...I have so much catching up to do. Blessings to you , xoxo,Susie

I love your snowing photo!! I just want to keep watching it! Snow makes for some lovely scenery, but it makes me want to stay indoors as if there is any spot of ice I seem to find it underfoot. I've never learned how to fall gracefully or without injury.

Gorgeous! I'd love to have this - or something akin - as a screen saver come June!

Have a lovely evening!

Hi Carol, your photo is so beautiful and so COOL! I am glad you were able to enjoy the snow. If only we could figure out how to deal with the snow so we can always enjoy it because it's so lovely and magical.

Such a beautiful photo. It's so true that attitude can help us see the beauty and light in almost anything.

Carol, your photo is lovely and the Google enhancement is so fun! We live in the Deep South and South Georgia is scheduled to see snow and ice Tuesday/Wednesday. I would enjoy a bit of snow; however, like you I am very fearful of the ice hazard both walking and driving. Stay warm and cozy! Smiles...Susan
