Snowy Day Random 5 Friday

It's time to join the fun group at Random 5 Friday, one of the most enjoyable ways to spend the coldest day in New York City in the last five years.

1) I like the idea of snow in theory, but in reality... I have drippy snow boots in the bathroom and I got myself caught in my down coat when the top button loop got tangled. But it was so nice to be outside today, or as my mother always said, "to get some air."

The trees may be here for awhile. The sanitation truck/snow plows were busy with other pursuits.

Broadway in the snow. Sidewalks were okay, but crossing the street was tricky.

2) I like the idea of staying indoors and being cozy in theory. By two o'clock I was getting a little stir crazy and went on an expedition to the grocery, which is two blocks away. At first I thought I can't go out because it had snowed. I realized that last year I would have been out in the dark to trudge to work, and while I didn't have to do that -- thankfully -- I certainly could go outside in six inches of snow.

3) Signed up to read fifty books this year, which is only one book a week. Have I started even one...

4) I also signed up for an on-line writing class for next week. There will be a novel in 2014, or at least a novella, or at least a long short story. You all will be the first to know.

5) Anyone else excited about "Downton Abbey" on Sunday night? I'm not quite counting the hours, but it's less than fifty.

It was twenty-six degrees this afternoon and now it's down to eleven. This is the time to stay in and be cozy. I think it's also time to begin the first book of 2014. Next week I'll let you know what I read.

As always thanks for visiting and keep warm and cozy!

I love the idea of reading 50 books this year! January is especially an ideal month to stay indoors and read!

I often envy folks who get snow because it is so pretty but I know it wouldn't be fun living in it. Try to keep warm and enjoy that book! Have a blessed weekend.....Vicky

Getting some air is good for us. I remember when I was in sixth grade in Middleburgh, NY that we went outside at recess on the snowy playground. We brought boots, snowpants, etc to school.
I could easily read 50 books in a year and probably do. Do you buy all of them or go to the library for some? Hope you include stuff like craft, recipe, or decorating books, too. Those are fun. Do you include your daily devotions and Bible Studies in those? When I think about how much of my Bible I read, it adds up to more than a "normal" book.
I have just started watching that show on DVD so will not watch it Sunday night. It will be too far ahead of me.

Getting air is good for you. Just be careful not to slip and fall on those snow covered places.

My dear, sweet Carol! Oh it's so good to stop by and see how you're doing :) How fun to read 50 books in a year! Where did you sign up to do this? I hope you had a blessed Christmas, friend, and may you have a lovely New Year :) Hugs to you!

Oh my 50 books...that's alot of reading. I am reading "The Husband's Secret" right now and I am lovin' it. Good thing to do on these cold, blustery winter days. I love writing classes. I have done 2 at our local college and enjoy them immensely, but I have no intentions of writing a book, or a novel or novella or a short story....just my blog, trying to keep it "compelling" my word for the year. And YES, I am definitely a Downton fan...a group of us fans are gathering for lunch on Wednesday after Bible study for our musings on the 1st episode. Stay safe, stay warm!!

We hit minus eighteen on the thermometer on my house but that does not really tell you what the fifteen mile per hour North wind coming across a mile of freezing river did to anyone crazy enough to go outside. I am now in Stowe with negative 18 on the car thermometer and hoping for the promised warm up tomorrow. A howling wind with freezing temperatures And fog as the ice forms making everything outside the window disappear raises a certain primal anxiety. I think my stiff upper lip is merely frozen. K

I like your goals of writing and reading and walking in the snow. I should count how many books I read last year, I am guessing about 50.

I love being cozy and safe indoors when the weather is cold. I read a few books during the year but I confess to just mostly browsing through cookbooks or craft magazines. Wishing you a nice weekend.

Where did you sign up to read 50 books this year? Are you on Goodreads? I signed up on there to read 24 books. Last year I only read 6 books. Not good. So I need to get reading to complete 24 books. I hope you are staying warm in the frigid cold. In the meantime we desperately need rain here.

I would love to have snow right now! The wind and rain that is battering the UK has become a bit boring and I fancy some other type of weather... can you blow some over?! Keep safe and warm xx

You are a brave lady to go out in six inches of snow, especially after just recovering from your foot injury.

Enjoy the warmth of your home today, Carol, and curl up with your first book of 2014.

I too am looking forward to the newest season of Downton Abby Sunday evening. Terribly cold and snowy here. I've been out very little. I've no urge to get some air...tooooo cold. Take care and have a super Saturday!

I love your plans, Buttercup! If winter continues at this pace, you may find yourself reading TWO books per week.:-) Stay safe and warm!

Your part of the world is getting some horrendously low temperatures-I noticed a bike in the middle of that icy street! getting caught in clothing I do quite often a little disconcerting especially when it is up over our heads!

Can't wait for Downton Abbey!! This season should be interesting.--almost a foot of snow here in western/upstate NY, Buttercup. It is Jan. after all (at least that is what I tell myself, lol.)--Blessings

A friend gave me chocolate ruggala from Zabar's. It's a bake good that's rolled up with chocolate inside. It was delicious with a cup of tea. That, and my dog snuggled against me is cozy.

...my mom was so excited to sit down last night in front of her new TV we bought her for Christmas to watch DA -- but one of her friends called right before it started and she missed the whole thing! She doesn't ever "not answer" a phone call as she doesn't want the caller to worry about her... Hope she can catch a repeat.
