It Looks Like the Beach...

...but I'm only a quick subway ride away!

I had two projects yesterday. The first was to visit one of my favorite places in Manhattan, the Marina at the World Financial Center. I love sitting at one of the tables in the plaza -- where I took this picture -- drinking coffee and watching the yachts. It's a quick and extremely inexpensive trip to the French Riviera. I didn't make it all last year and this year, because of Hurricane Sandy, there is a lot of construction. But it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed sitting outside and reading the Sunday New York Times.

Just in case I was apt to forget I was in Manhattan, if I turned to the right I could see the World Financial Center. This area is built on the landfill from the World Trade Center.

My second project was to try and find exercise clothes that fit. That, my friends, will be quite a project. I know I can order any number of pants and shirts, but I foresee ordering, sending back and ordering in an endless cycle. I knew Century 21 -- the department store, not the realty company -- had a big selection. This is the store where I had the bathing suit debacle, but I didn't let that stop me. I found, unfortunately, that even extra large is generally for extra large tall people. One pair of pants did fit, but after I found myself almost trapped in a pink glow-in-dark shirt -- what was I possibly thinking ! -- I decided to retreat. I have a couple of other in-person ideas and if they fail, online shopping, here I come. I am happy for any suggestions you might have. This is a new predicament for me. On one hand I am thrilled to need exercise clothes. But on the other hand I never thought they would be so hard to find. I don't think I've bought anything specifically to wear for exercise in decades, and it was a lot easier then.

I resumed my search today, and the store I found online had gone out of business. Two more places to try. Wish me luck!

I hope you all had a more fruitful day than I did and wish you a terrific Tuesday!

Looks like a lovely day! The sky is so pretty and clear. I love relaxing with coffee and the paper when I have enough time to just read and enjoy.

Beautiful photos and I can imagine having a coffee and reading the paper there..exercise clothes, I wear sweats that I need to fold up for they are too long and a baggy old t-shirt...as long as whatever you wear isn't too tight it is perfect...

Hi Carol!

I loved shopping in Century 21 --it was always a hit or miss, but I always found something to buy..lol!

Have you tried Modells for exercise clothes? I always had success finding what I needed there and their prices are good.

It's been a while but I found some things that fit and were on sale at Kohls , I think Nike makes them. I went for the Tshirt and loose pants that were like capris . I don't go out and exercise but they were comfy for when I camped and now for when I babysit. That is a workout sometimes. I love the beach and would enjoy your version of it too. How nice you have the best of both worlds right close to where you live.

What a lovely place to be able to relax!

Exercise clothes seem to be made for those already svelte bodies with an extra inch or two of height than I am. I wish you well on your search, but cannot give any ideas where to begin.

My Son in law made a video of our river rafting trip that I posted on my blog about Wyoming. Drop by when you can and take a peek. Hugs

Carol,

Beautiful photos!

I have a Brazilian friend who buys clothes in the U.S. by the system online and gives always right. I'm impressed that although he being SO BIG always he hits.

Good lucky!

Good luck finding what you like...I find things at Kohl's . You had a great Sunday, it seems. Blessings to you. Enjoy your week. xoxo,Susie

Kohl's, Sears, Target, even Kmart would most likely have workout clothes. Or do what I do. An older pair of capri's, and a loose fitting T-shirt. Most important is what you are wearing on your feet and that you are not constricted anywhere. xo

If you can't find them online I do not know what to tell you. Good luck on your search.

Caeol, try going to some of the gyms - Equinox, NY Atheltic Club. They have shops with large selections and you can try on clothes.
