I was first invited to join facebook almost five years ago. It was an invitation from a college friend I hadn't been in touch with for over twenty years. I answered yes, and after I had joined this place for college and high school kids, I realized I had no idea what I would do on facebook. I asked the son of a friend -- Ben was a high school senior at the time -- what he did on facebook and he told me it was a great way to invite friends to parties. I knew that wasn't for me and for a time I had three friends and didn't do much. But time went by and little by little I started to keep up with friends and family all over the United States and then all over the world.
Four years ago I had the great experience of taking a cruise to Alaska. I met a terrific family and at the end of the cruise we all became friends on facebook and I confess, started to play Farmville. They live in Vancouver and I live three thousand miles away, and unlike every other friendship I've made while traveling, we are still in touch. I had the great pleasure of having dinner with Lindsay and Karen, during their visit to New York this week. I braved the crowds of Times Square -- my first evening outing in weeks -- and had a wonderful visit. We had dinner and then shared New York cheesecake and talked and laughed.

These last two pictures are from the Alaska trip. I think we can use a few cool, cool pictures these days. I feel refreshed just looking at them. Hope you do, too!
Keep cool and drink lemonade!

What a wonderful story about your long distant friends. Alaska looks so inviting. My younger daughter is headed there in August. She's so excited. Seeing those pics did cool me off a bit. LOL It was 103 here in the shade, today. The high temps played havoc with my hubby's COPD and the meds I take, so we gave up on making any day trips until things cool off. take care.
It's wonderful you could meet up with your friends. It's been so hot here that going out anywhere is a no no. Staying in to keep cool is just about as bad as staying in to keep warm in the winter. Not much fun at all. The pictures are beautiful and refreshing. Hope you have a super Saturday.
I'm not a big Facebooker -- I have an account and visit daily, but don't add to much. I did Farmville about 2 years ago then quit when it ate up too much of my time. But you do meet some interesting and lovely people through Social Media!
How fun, that you were able to share a meal and smile at one another again!
We did the Alaskan cruise a number of years ago -- totally can't wait to go back! These photos are really inviting, Carol.
Thanks for the cool Alaska photos!
I think that last photo was taken at the Shrine of St. Therese outside of Juneau! Let me know if I'm correct!
Next time you come to Alaska, let me know beforehand and we will give you a personal tour!
It's amazing how the internet can make this big world so much smaller ~ so happy you found friendships among it all!

What a fun evening. Glad that you are getting around better each day.
Enjoy your weekend.

Friendships that endure through the years are very special! I'm glad you were able to meet with them again.
I'm not a Facebook person, but have a rather long list of email addresses.:)

Yes I like Facebook very much. I played some Farmville, and Castlevillebut adide from the games...there is the awesome opportunity to meet long lost friends. Lots of my colleagues are spread all over the world and it's refreshing, when I wake up, to see on Facebook how they start the day...it's a small but significant joy.
THANK YOU for the COOOOOOOL pictures. You are correct that we need them!!!
My mom lived in Albany, NY but she would have loved NYC, too. A city invigorated her. I am more comfortable in our small city of Cleveland. Even it gets a bit congested in some areas if you are on the roads at the wrong time.
So glad you felt well enough to go out for a good time with friends!
