Sunday in the Park with Buttercup

Today was the first day in weeks that I spent time outside. Between surgery, recovery and the hundred degree heat I have been inside much too much and have been getting a serious case of cabin fever -- in July! But it's 82 degrees today and the thought of sitting in the dark in a movie -- my easy recreation these days -- was not appealing. I joined my friend, Mary, to spend time enjoying a perfect summer day. We went to a favorite take-out place and with our salads and iced coffee spent several lovely hours under these trees. Bliss!

 Perfect outdoor place for lunch

Our lunch spot was across the street from one of my favorite places, Lincoln Center, and after lunch we enjoyed walking thorough the Lincoln Center Plaza and watching the fountain in the center.

I've been feeling a little gloomy over my recovery. I know objectively I'm doing well, but I still have a lot of pain and difficulty walking. I'm going to physical therapy and have been doing my at-home exercises and I know that recovery takes time. I did well walking today and my mood was much better. I think getting some air and sunshine helped a lot. It's not a fancy prescription, but fresh air, sunshine and friendship have great healing properties and they certainly worked for me today.

Wishes for fresh air, sunshine and friendship!

It is funny how things come upon us quickly but take their time leaving! I am sure with continued PT you will be back as good as new. Weather has been delightful the past two days, but still warm. xo

I'm happy that you were able to enjoy time outdoors with Mary today. Salad and iced coffee under the big trees sounds delightful. Such a lovely fountain to enjoy, also. Praying that you begin to feel better very soon. May the knowledge that many in blogland are wishing you the best, lift your spirits. Keeping you in my heart and prayers.

I think salad and ice coffee outdoors under the trees is just what you need for recovery. How good the weather was 82.

Dear Buttercup, It sounds like you spent a "kodack Moment" kind of day. (I guess I am dating myself). Please take care and blessings, Catherine xo

Glad you got out. It was a beautiful weekend here too.
It does do one a lot of good to get out in the fresh air and sunshine. I hated it when it was so hot you couldn't be outside at all. It was just as bad as being cooped up in the winter time.

The blues do manage to set in a little when trying to recover from a surgery. The difficulty walking and the pain you are experiencing are making it harder to cope I know. And PT stretches you to your limits. "THIS too shall pass." Getting out and about is the best thing you could have done to lift your spirits to move recovery forward. HEALING will come. It takes time. Your city is gorgeous, filled with so many interesting places. I'm glad you were able to have a wonderful afternoon with a friend. PS) LOVE that water fountain.

Take it easy on yourself! I had the same impatience after my hip surgery and thought I wasn't recovering as fast as I should. It boring and annoying to be tied down, but give your body time to heal--it will thank you for it!

I'm glad that you got some fresh air and had a nice day out with your friend. I think this is the hardest part of recovery time. At first you expect to have pain and be down.... But after a while you want to be " normal" again. Hurting all the time gets old. You are thankful for the progress you've made and don't want to seem ungrateful for your blessings.... But at the same time you hurt.... You are not the same and it is hard. You don't want to wiery your friends with complaints but the road ahead seems very long and hard to face. I know exactly how you feel. My heart goes out to you. My prayers are with you. Hugs, Lura

Oh Buttercup.. loved reading that you were able to spend the day outside in the sunshine and with a good friend. Some of the best things in life.
Sending you wishes that your recovery picks up steam and that all goes well with the physical therapy!!

You prescribed well for yourself and it sounds like your prescription did its job. I know what you mean about healing taking time. When we are used to being active, it's totally frustrating to be inhibited in any way with our range of motion.
