Saturday in New York Update

While Monday is officially the first day of my medical leave from the office and technically I am still on the weekend duty roster, I am counting today as the my first day off. Unlike last summer when I worked right up until the minute I had to start prepping for my surgery -- and that was evacuation day for Hurricane Irene -- I have gotten wiser and am taking four days to rest, relax and build up my strength before my surgery on Wednesday.

I have a long list of things I would like to do in the next three days -- catch up on emails, read, grocery shop, chat with friends, clean out my freezer, sort laundry -- I only accomplished a little of the first today. I did read the first of nine sections of today's NY Times and scheduled breakfast with my neighbor and friend, Jane K., for tomorrow morning. I will go grocery shopping with my friend, Mary, on Tuesday night and whatever doesn't get done will just have to wait.

What I did do...
It's not fancy, but this is my favorite bagel store. Great bagels and the best iced coffee. I spent a wonderful hour here reading that first section of the NY Times and savoring my iced coffee.

Paid a visit to my local fruit stand and my snack for the afternoon were some of the season's first cherries, which were sweet and juicy. Cherries are one of my favorite -- maybe all-time favorite! -- fruits and the first of the season are a huge treat for me.

I think tomorrow's treat will be peaches. This store is next to the diner where we be having breakfast, and I will stop by and choose a fruit treat.

What is your sweet treat for the weekend? Wishing you rest, relaxation and all that makes you smile!

Oh, I want to visit that bagel shop with you. It looks so cozy.

Sending happy, healthy thoughts to you this week as you have surgery.

We had soup for dinner and now I'm thinking of asking hubby to take me for italian ice. Yum. It's been a hot day and that just sounds so good.

I agree, your bagel shop would certainly get my attention!
...And an ATM machine that gives something besides 20-dollar bills? Amazing!!!

OK, I digress.
Mostly, I'm so happy you've plans to surround yourself with close friends and good company in the coming week. Wish I could be there, too, but will have to settle for sending my best thoughts n' prayers.

I have been on a cleaning and organizing rampage all day and around 5:30 had a bagel that I had frozen! That place looks wonderful, almost too wonderful. Good luck with your surgery. xo

Sounds like a brilliant plan, I too would love to visit that bagel shop with you and then go buy some fruit for a delicious fruit salad. Enjoy these days before you are confined to barracks as they say. Holding you in my thoughts and prayers.

Love and Best Wishes

PS Thank you for your kind remarks;) xx

Good Evening, I love to see your favorite places. I can just imagine enjoying coffee/bagel while reading. The fresh fruit looks delicious, too. We have been enjoying sweet, juicy peaches the last 2 weeks.
Prayers continue for you as you prepare for surgery.

We just discovered green beans ready to be picked tonight, and my husband has brought in enough for us to enjoy tomorrow! They aren't sweet, but the first ones of the season are certainly a treat!

On the "fruit front" - I found fresh apricots in the supermarket on Friday! They are a favorite of mine, and I have been enjoying them.

Thinking of you as you prepare for your surgery.

I am glad you are giving your body and your MIND a chance to prepare for the surgery. It will make a BIG difference in your recovery. That bagel shop is wonderful and the outdoor markets divine. Cherries and peaches sound delicious. Today I indulged with some fresh lemonade. It was almost 90 here, so it tasted delicious. You ENJOY this time off to prepare. I'll be thinking about you on Wednesday. take care.
