Girl Scouts Together in Every Good Deed

Source: current.com via Kerri on Pinterest

Today is the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, founded by Juliet Gordon Low in Savannah in 1912. Girl Scouting was a very important part of my growing up. I was a scout for six years, a camper for four years and a counselor-in-training at my beloved Camp Alice Merritt in East Hartland, CT for two years. I sold hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies, camped in the wilderness, learned to canoe, whittle and made some of the best friends ever. My dear friend Lonni, who I traveled with to Sedona, is a Scouting friend. My mother was our leader and she made some of her best friends from scouting, too.

I can't begin to thank the Girl Scouts for all I received. This post is just a down payment on the debt I owe. Happy, happy birthday and many more!

You were very involved in Girl Scouts! I was a Brownie - - - loved my uniform - - especially the cute Beanie Cap. Then we moved and I wasn't active anymore since we were living in the country. It wasn't as convenient at that time. However, we have bought our share of GS Cookies!

I was a Brownie for awhile but did not move up to Girl Scouts.
We do buy those cookies though!

I was a Girl Scout in my youth and enjoyed it until we moved away. My own girls were Bluebirds and Campfire Girls. I guess they were competing organizations?

I was a brownie and a girlguide (as they are called in Canada) and when my girls were growing up I was a leader in both groups. It's a fabulous program. Sadly not alot of girls particpate in it these days. Girl Guide cookies are the best! xxoo

I meant to stop by last night ...
This brought back soooo many great memories. My mother was our Troop Leader, as well --Oh, how we tried her patience!
A particular memory sticks out: One Halloween, our troop went door-to-door, collecting $ for UNICEF in pint-size milk cartons ... it was sooooo cold! :)
