Thank You, Time Warner

It almost came to this, but Time Warner saved me!

I love living in Manhattan, but there are issues here unique to living in an urban canyon on an island. One issue is that I get no television reception without a cable. Without cable service I get nada, zip, except snow and noise. It's not pretty. Ten days ago my cable service went. I fiddled around, my super checked that I hadn't accidentally disconnected a wire and then I called Time Warner, my cable provider. Between my schedule and their schedule this morning was the first time they could come. The technician was great, punctual and efficient and I am back in the television business.

If you had asked me a month ago about my television habits I would have said I don't watch much television. I realized I watched more than I thought I did. I missed the "Today" Show, the late night news and my favorites, "Say Yes to the Dress" and "What Not to Wear." I missed the Sunday morning news shows and watching the Academy Awards, even if I generally fall asleep after the first half-hour. I missed having the option of turning on the television set and not thinking about using my time more constructively.

I found I had a lot more time without television. And what did I do with that time? I read magazines, I blogged more than usual and I decluttered. I got a big boost to my decluttering. I would give myself a B for decluttering in January and an A- in February.

I am grateful for my interruption in viewing and grateful, too, to have my television given back to me. I wouldn't have chosen it, but what a good lesson I received.

Sweet wishes, citizens of Buttercupland!

How nice you got such good service!
Waiting for the cable guy is an established old joke. I would be lost without my TV. I watch both the local and national news and read the morning paper to stay informed. Even if it's routine (if you can call misery and war routine) I feel like I'm being left out of the loop if I don't get my daily fix.

We were recently without water for a few hours while a leak was being repaired. I could not believe how many times I needed water!!!!! Glad you have tv again!

That is a LOT of time without tv; like you, I probably watch more tv than I think I do. I am sure you are happy with your tv back in action. Decluttering sounds worthwhile.

Hi Buttercup: What a cute post. Yes, we all watch more T.V. than we think we do! I also like Say Yes To The Dress and What Not To Wear!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. What a nice surprise! So good to hear from you. Come back again!

I think I would be more lost without my internet. I mostly listen to the radio and spend waaay to much time on the computer.

I think it's like anything we grow accustomed to having -- if it's suddenly taken away, we get a little panicky. :)

We never know how much we use something until we don't have it. Little things make a big difference and we are creatures of habit. I always get out of sorts when I can't enjoy something I'm used to. Glad all is well now! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Oh my goodness, I love the goldfish tv bowl. There's nothing on tv worth watching that they are charging us that much for..do you think?I love project runway and now there's a new show of design due out. But I hate reality shows ,at the same time....everyone's a big butt on them. Where are the nice people reality shows??? Take care, enjoy your tv. Smiles, Susie

I'd sacrifice it all for the television in that picture. LOL LOVE it. Really do. A few years ago I went without TV or INTERNET for 7 days due to a power outage. It was an eye-opening experience. I found since then, I do not watch as much TV. But the internet, I can't live without. Glad you are back up and enjoying cable. Take care.

I do not think I watch that much television, but after reading your post....I have to admit, there is more time spent in front of that boob-tube than I thought. I love to read, but I usually do that late at night in bed (due to sleeplessness). Anyway, glad you have your TV back. Blessings and enjoy, "What not to wear". I will be watching that too.

Yes, I like having the TV when I want it, too.
What's worse is when the electricity goes out - at home or work. We are extremely dependent on it - - - don't know what to do without it.
