I'm Up for the (Decluttering) Challenge

This month I have been doing the 100 Things Decluttering Challenge. Twenty one things are no longer in my little apartment and another thirty are about to join them. On Wednesday morning the charity pickup folks will arrive and I will have three bags of usable things waiting for them. I know that will feel good.

I am a clutterbug for two reasons. One reason is a strong streak of sentimentality, which leads me to keep gifts well beyond their useful life. The other reason is practicality. I think that most things can be used in the future, even though I may not have used them for quite some time. Both of which are dangerous tendencies when unchecked. Tomorrow afternoon I will be going through my closet, my china cabinet and my kitchen for things in good repair that can be donated. I am optimistic that at least thirty things are ready to join that group. I am also planning to got through the bathroom -- medicine chest and makeup bin -- where there will be another good dozen things that are simply taking up space. Is anyone else part of the Decluttering Challenge?

I'm enjoying this Sunday so much knowing that tomorrow is another a day off from work. I was at the hairdresser this morning and will be joining friends for dinner and the theater in a short while. Tomorrow is less leisurely, with decluttering, a medical appointment and a trip to pick up my new glasses, but I also plan to make a pot of coffee and listen to music while I declutter and that will be a treat for a Monday afternoon.

Wishes for treats for this Sunday to you!

Have a wonderful Sunday...it certainly sounds as if it should be a great one for you! I've put my decluttering on hold now for awhile as I've some baby gifts to be making. I may have to declutter the craft room before I can do that but that is all for the rest of this month and probably for March too.

I have a strong streak of sentimentality as well. Good think though, because my kids have none. If I don't hang onto things I KNOW they will not. I sure hope I have a grandchild that will emerge with a heart for a few possessions from their ancestors :)

You have been making great progress in de-cluttering! Happy day-off tomorrow!

When I try to de-clutter, I always have lingering doubts about what I might regret disposing of. What if...
That can really hang a guilt trip on a person.

I SO hear you on the sentimentality part of hanging on to things! Really, how many of Isaac's new born clothes do I really need to save? Good luck on your efforts.

I tend to accumulate clutter as well. With changes coming up for me in the near future, I will be pitching tons of stuff to charity!

PS - enjoy your day off tomorrow!

I so need to de-clutter...Every closet in my house is packed full... but it is such a big job. I am not up to facing it yet but with your good example maybe I will soon. Hugs, Lura

My 17 year old is very attached to some of her toys. We packed a lot of them away in boxes, but she won't part with them. They hold happy memories for her and she's not ready to let go of her childhood just yet. She actually knows the who, when, where and why history of every beanie baby she has...and there are many!

Yes, I have been decluttering simply because we have downsized into a smaller home and I was forced to get rid of many things. It is amazing the things you can accumulate over the years. I have to admit I hang on to things too. So, all in all, the downsizing was a good thing for me. Blessings!

I find I have trouble parting with things. I am always of the mindset, I can use it later. So I procrastinate throwing something out or donating it, then the clutter accumulates. Sounds like you have managed to get yours under control. Congratulations. It is a tough job for sure. Enjoy your day off. Take care.

So, i ride a bus - When i am headed in the direction of the pantry - I carry along one or two items needing a good home - some jeans in great shape - blouses . . . there's a place to hang these things so someone needing them can find them easily and use them . . . It's fun - and kind of funny - seeing me arrive with what i need - and what i no longer need . . . a little at a time.
Love To You!!!
