I Like All Ten Fingers -- How About You?

My friend Mary and I got about the subject of preserving our fingers in a roundabout way. We were talking at lunch today about things we wanted to do in our apartments in the next year. Mary wanted to get the living room floor redone and I commented that after an unfortunate blender incident yesterday I had a new impetus to have the kitchen painted. I now had some pink spots on the ceiling where strawberry smoothie had erupted when the spoon I stuck into the whirling blender hit the blade (Yes, it was very foolish and no, I have no idea what I was thinking) and pureed strawberry went everywhere in my kitchen, including the ceiling. Somehow I also cut my thumb, but not badly. Mary related that a cut from a broken glass led to a visit to the ER on New Year's Day, stitches and one small step away from an infection.  I then remembered the first time I used my juicer in November and made a large slice in the other thumb incorrectly cleaning the juicer blade.

Here are three accidents involving our hands in just about two months. Certainly I should have learned my lesson with the juicer incident of 2011, but sadly I went on to the blender incident of 2012. I love my fingers and I am especially fond of my two thumbs. Life would be much tougher without any of them. So I need to remember to be more careful and take good care of them.  The Buttercupland Department of Public Safety reminds you to be more careful in the kitchen than Buttercup and keep your fingers and thumbs safe. As we say in Buttercupland, "Take good care of your thumbs, they belong to you!"

This reminds me of a story. When my husband and I first met, he did the cooking. Hasn't since, but he did then. He had bought a NEW Chef
knife. I decided to use it to chop up some salad fixings. He took the knife from me, saying I was NOT using it properly. He then proceeded to show me the CORRECT way to do it. It was then he almost cut his finger off. BLOOD was everywhere and the finger needed stitches. He should have LEFT well enough, alone. I'm glad you and your friend survived your kitchen mishaps. We come into the world with TEN fingers, let's make sure we leave with them all. Take care.

I once spilled lukewarm Jello in the kitchen and it then "congealed" to the wall, ceiling, backsplash etc.

Thanks for the reminder to be careful with our hands - I most often burn or steam my hands/fingers!

Yes, thank you for the reminder to be careful. Most accidents that happen at home could have been avoided with a little care and by following directions. I'm terrible at reading all those little booklets that come with appliances. Good to hear you still have all your fingers! A little paint will fix things up just right.

Thank you to the Dept. of Public Safety. I give this post, and your sage advice to us all, a "thumbs" up :)

Goodness honey I am glad your okay. The ceiling can be painted but you need to keep your fingers.
I can't say a thing about you doing this because I am sure I did the same thing myself.
My ceilings in most of these rooms need painting but right now I am too busy redoing the upstairs room.
Take care and keep that lid on that dang blender
Love ya
