Confession Is Good for the Soul

My true confession last week about gift card hoarding gave me great comfort in knowing I was not alone in this habit, as well as some good encouragement and advice. So I am here with another confession. It's nothing truly awful -- or what I think of as truly awful -- but something I rarely acknowledge. I am a time waster. There! My awful secret is out in the open.

It started with television evenings and as the years have gone by it's morphed into computer-based time wasting. I don't count crossword puzzles, one of my great enthusiasms as a time waster since I learned it was good for keeping my mind sharp. What a relief that was. But Solitaire went to Farmville and now I have discovered Angry Birds, which may be the greatest time waster ever developed. I downloaded it to my phone because I read so much about it and like so many bad habits I am now a devotee. I even use my precious subway reading time for Angry Birds. For those who are unfamiliar the aim is to fling birds at various structures inhabited by pigs and score points. Simple, but oh so seductive.

I almost blogged about Angry Birds last week and held back thinking my devotion would wane. To the contrary it's gotten stronger. I even think about playing it during the day at work. So far I have not succumbed to sneaking into the restroom with my phone for a few quick games. Please take my advice, do not download this game just to see it, unless you have infinite hours to spend flinging little virtual birds through the sky.

Has anyone else been caught in the snare of this siren or am I all alone?

I am pretty much right there with you. I have Angry Birds too but getting tired of it (thank goodness) but it is a fun game. I have been doing Farmville with friends and family and up to level 75 so you know I am serious but I am getting tired of it too. It is hard to break away from some of these things but after a while I feel like my brain is numb. And I am behind on my reading.

Uh-oh!
I've had an over-active "addict" gland for too many years now! Were you similarly hooked by the "fly a helicoptor" exercise a few years ago?
...Don't get me started :)

That's ok I find myself playing Scrabble way too much.
But sometimes I think it's theraputic to waste time. It's a good way to get away from everything
going on in the world.

Have no idea what these games are, nor do I play them. Occasionally, rarely, Free Cell Solitaire will hit my screen. Enjoy it, Carol ... we all need something to do as a release ... Think I'll tap into I Love Lucy, chuckle.

Have a beautiful day, my friend ~

I've heard of these games but I try not to play any games on the computer or my phone as I just don't have the time. I love to read and books take up a lot of my pleasure time :)

I'm curious --what is your favorite restaurant in Mill Basin? I'm always looking for good places to eat in Brooklyn! :0)

HI!
MY HUBBY calls this computer a big time waster, I call it CHEAP FREE THERAPY!!
I love every single second I am here typing to my friends!!
I DO NOT Play ANY games on here though. So I guess that is a good thing.
I adore reading about other peoples lives. I guess I am bad, I am a stalker!
Hugs,

My husband and older daughter can get caught up with games - - more her than him though. She is addicted to them.
Games have barely ever interested me. I will try one or two every couple of years but they never intrigue me that much. Give me a good book any day of the week.
I do find I can spend more time than necessary on the computer so when home all day on Friday and Saturday, I make myself do so many minutes of "chores" before getting back on the computer for 'x' amount of minutes. If I don't, then on Monday when it is time again for work, I am very unprepared and the week does not go as smoothly.
But your games are better for you than any substance abuse!!!

I've never even heard of Angry Birds. (I can hear you saying: "Gloria! Have you been living in a cave???!!") But, trust me, I waste enough time without playing Angry Birds. I waste time (WAY too much time) watching TV and looking up recipes and copying them and I never wind up making them, I make the same stuff over and over. I also waste time looking at online stores, picking out all the stuff I want, which I will never get because it equals to probably a few thousand dollars for all the stupid little things that I see and like. I also waste time with putting stuff off. If I didn't procrastinate so much, I'd have all the stuff done already what I wanted to do. So, do you feel better now? You are not the only time waster! :)
Best,
Gloria

I am so behind on reading! My confession is I have been addicted to Frontierville on Facebook! I am a little ashamed, but I can't stop! If I had a smart phone I'd probably be playing Angry Birds too, lol!
