Now and...

Now!

In honor of Mardi Gras I had a post all ready written. I was going to open with the pictures above, which is the view from the bus stop where I was standing tonight. Then I was going to show pictures taken at Mardi Gras in 1973. The title was going to be "Now and Then." Then was thirty eight years ago and I've just spent an hour looking for the photographs. I assume they'll turn up tomorrow or next week, but all I have to offer for tonight is slush.

My first trip to New Orleans was in February 1973. I was a graduate student in Nashville and friends suggested we drive down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. On a tank of gas and $25.00 we were gone. No fancy meals or hotels -- I have a memory of sleeping at an Episcopal Church that let folks sleep in their social hall -- but we had the best time and it's still one of my fondest memories. I've been back a few times since that trip, with fancier acomodations and much more elegant meals, but no other visit surpassed that first trip.

Are there trips that stand out for you?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh the slushiness of it all! Brrrrr...

We visited the Canadian Rockies several years ago. It was the 4th of July and we were at Lake Louise and snowflakes were falling. That was a surreal experience for me!

I did get to go to New Orleans once but not at Mardi Gras. Hope you get to show some of your pictures. More snow coming here again ...

Looks like a cold wet one - you always 'think' of it as a warm celebration.

I liked my Alaska trip better than any other in my life.

Have a good day and don't get into too much trouble - Hubblelips!

Ah yes...my trip on a greyhound bus to CT where I was meeting my unsuspecting (then) fiance who was in the Navy...I left home with $800, a duffle bag and no idea if Barney even still (really) wanted to marry me. 12 years the answer was yes!

My favourite trip was to the Norfolk Broads. There were seven boat loads of us . We went our own way in the day but met up at night. It was a holiday full of fun and laughter ! Hey Ho ! A long time ago !

I went to N.O. in June of '70, my first big trip as an adult, without parents, and with a girl friend who was several years older. We stayed in the French Quarter, and walked everywhere, totally oblivious to any possible danger. Such a wonderful weekend, and loads of memories. Have never been back.
