Sweepstakes Friday

We've finished our public meetings, but getting home late every night has cut into my computer time. I've got some new New York Photos and I promise to download them over the weekend. In the interim, I'm sharing a great contest link. The winner has a wonderful assortment of trips from which to choose, including one of my favorite trips to dream about, seeing the polar bears in Manitoba. Which trip would you choose?

Good luck, friends. And if anyone here wins the trip, of course, you don't have to ask me to accompany you, but I am a very good travel buddy.

Want to go to Barbados?

JOHNSON'S® Baby Oil – Soak in the Secret Sweepstakes

One of my hobbies is entering contests. I've won books, jewelry, the wonderful Tim McGraw concert last fall and a restaurant gift certificate. It's all fun and I've learned that some months are great and others are lean -- kind of like the rest of life.

But the one win that has completely escaped me is a vacation. I've probably entered hundreds of sweepstakes where one of the prizes is a vacation. Some have been as exotic as Botswana or India and others to much less exotic locations around New York state. Johnson & Johnson has a fun contest where the first prize is a trip to Barbados. They very thoughtfully provided a blog link and I'd like to share it. Just the thought of luxuriating on a beach in Barbados raised my tired of winter spirits. This may just be one more contest I don't win, but it would be great to get a postcard from one of my dear blog friends from their wonderful trip to Barbados.

Good luck and good wishes!

Lucky

Somewhere early in this decade I developed terrible insomnia. I had always been a very sound sleeper, so this was a new and unwelcome development. I'm sleeping better now, but not back where I had been.

I started to enter contests in the small hours of the night. Lots and lots of on-line contests. I've never won anything enormous -- a trip or a car for example, but I've won some fun things and love my sunglasses from Elle Magazine and the books I've won for my book club friends. Tonight's surprise in the mail was mascara from Lucky Magazine. It was a nice surprise to come home to on an icy and cold night.

It got me to thinking about luck. Before I started entering (and winning) contests I'd never thought of myself as an especially lucky person. And yet when I reflect I am far beyond lucky. I am blessed with great good fortune. Have all my prayers and wishes come to reality? The answer to that is no. Some of the great prayers of my heart are still unrealized. But to have the love of G'd, a warm home, a job that provides for my needs, friends, family, the good fortune to be an American and yes, the sweet little things of life -- whether it's mascara in the mail, my favorite key lime pie or a new paperback novel -- I am indeed lucky.
