The Most Beautiful Day of the Year

The perfect summer day at White Flower Farm, Litchfield CT

I know that as of tomorrow -- just a few hours away -- there are still four months left in 2025. So it may be somewhat premature to announce that yesterday was the most beautiful day of the year. But with the clear blue sky dotted with clouds, not a drop of humidity and surrounded by flowers, I am declaring August 30th the most beautiful day of 2025.

The Shake (TM) Raspberry Petunia

I had the very good fortune to spend yesterday in Litchfield County, CT in the northwest corner of the state. Though there are early apples already it was definitely a late summer day and no hints of the autumn leaves that will appear in the next month. Though the only garden I have are two indoor plants, I love visiting this fabulous garden store. I'm always tempted to take home a few plants, but fortunately reality gives me enough pause to realize the blooms of White Flower won't do well in my closet apartment.

I'm a fan of sunflowers, and this one caught my eye

I'm also a fan of the black-eyed susan

There are lots of plants for sale, but this area of White Flower Farm is the display garden, and while it's a commercial display garden I felt as though I'd come to the most beautiful country lane, and I had.

One thing that I learned this week is that black-eyed susans are attractive to butterflies and I was hoping to see butterflies during my visit. Alas, only a couple of butterflies and they flew quickly out of my photographic range. I'd hoped to add butterfly pictures to this post, but that will have to be after another visit.

Besides my visit to White Flower Farm the day included a fun lunch at a new (to me) restaurant in Litchfield, a visit to a favorite orchard, a delicious iced coffee and grocery shopping.

As ever, thanks for visiting and enjoy the last sweet days of summer.

It certainly looks the most beautiful time of the year - I know where you are, as my relatives have lived in the area for 60 + years. Lovely photos Carol. Sorry I won't see you this year!

You did have a lovely day, It wasn't quite so beautiful here because we had a lot of dark clouds, but overnight we did get some much needed rain. This morning is nice and green thanks to the rain. Happy Labor Day!

I get their catalog and get ideas for pots and planters from them. Maybe I'll stop by there one day in our travels south.
