I Love Donuts

Especially from Deviant Donuts, Mystic Connecticut

I made a return visit to Mystic, Connecticut this weekend. The high point was spending time with my cousins who live in the next town, but so enjoyed our two visits to Mystic. One of my discoveries was stopping by Deviant Donuts, which is situated in the Olde Mystick Village. The Village is a collection of stores, restaurants, a duck pond and walking paths, and yes, I could spend hours here in just about any season.

So hard to resist!

Everything looked good, everything. We got there early to get the best selection of donuts. My picks were the cannoli donut and a Nutella beignet. The cannoli was delicious with a light lemon filling. The Nutella was good, but amazingly to me, there was too much Nutella. I never thought I would say or write that, but I lost the taste of the actual donut. The winner, not pictured here, was an apple fritter, which was outstanding.

The drinks will have to wait for another visit

The pistachio latte called my name, but we had delicious cold brew waiting at home. My beverage thoughts will have to wait for another visit. I've got a trip in planning for December and there will be a seasonal coffee on my agenda.

We had a very full schedule for a too quick weekend visit and one of my favorites was visiting historical sites in the neighborhood. After a morning walk I was introduced to the historic area of Gales Ferry, a small town along the Thames River. There is a beautifully preserved historic section and, of course, I had to take pictures.

This beauty was built in 1850

The first time I was in Mystic was a visit to Mystic Seaport with my fifth grade class in 1961. I've been there many times since then and each visit has a new treat to discover. I've never been there at Halloween or Christmas and so looking forward to discovering holiday events there. Lots more to come, friends.

Back in New York we've had a few cooler days and it's been a treat. After a few errands and a trip to the gym, I enjoyed sitting outside with an iced coffee. So looking forward to the blessedly cooler days and treasures of autumn.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care.

This looks like an awesome place. And the donuts look huge and delicious. I wonder how they got their unusual name of Deviant? I hope you can return at Halloween time, I would love to see the photos!! I bet it would be amazing!

Your post makes Mystic come alive both the charming village atmosphere and the irresistible donuts. I appreciate how you balance foodie delights with local history; it’s clear every visit brings something new. That apple fritter sounds like a must-try.
