My Heart Is With Ukraine

I've thought about writing the blog post I'd planned for the last two days, but my thoughts were not on books and the fun things I was going to write about. There will be posts on books and there will be a Pink Saturday post, but for today my heart and my prayers are with the forty-four million people of Ukraine.

Both of my maternal grandparents were from Ukraine. My grandfather was from a small town near Lviv, and my grandmother from a small town not far from Kyiv. My grandfather died in 1952, so I didn't know him, but my grandmother was a strong part of my life until 1975. She talked about her life before coming to America and spoke about going to Kyiv. I don't know of any relatives still in Ukraine, but I can't help but think there are distant cousins still there and my heart aches for them, and for the millions of others hearing bombs drop tonight. And like millions of others around the world tonight I am praying for peace.

The entire situation in the Ukraine is so very troubling. My prayers tonight are also with the people of that beautiful nation.

I have been praying, too - - - praying for Ukraine to be a mighty David against a Goliath - - - praying for the precious people under attack - - - praying for God's Holy Spirit to descend in a mighty way and change evil-intended hearts - - - - and to strengthen, encourage, and comfort those who need it. Praying for guidance and safety in travel for those leaving the country. Such a sad time.

One does not have to be of Ukrainian descent in joining with you to wish these beleaguered people well. It is a sign of the madness of the times that Putin is receiving support and encouragement from a former President and a leading right-wing news channel in your country - and that because they both have such a huge following, many will conclude that the invasion is justified. After all if Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson say it's the right thing to do, it must be so.

My thoughts and prayers are with them too. Hard to believe it is war zone there. Something none of us ever wants to happen.

As is my heart, Carol. I have no family connections to Ukraine but this is a travesty and my heart is breaking. I can see why we aren't in direct war within the country but I hope there is more we can do as a country and as a NATO member to help the Ukranians both in their struggle and as the refugees begin to settle. I cannot even begin to imagine.

My heart breaks for those people. There is no reason for Putin to be trying to take over their country and yet, he is determined to. I pray for peace and I pray for the "David" in this situation to rid the " goliath".

Makes me recognize how small my challenges really are compared to what those families are facing.

It's hard to fathom that war is happening in Ukraine right now. If that was here what would we be doing - trying to stay alive. It's a very sad state of affairs for everyone especially when we have an ex president praising the aggressor nation and leader. What is our world coming to?

You are not alone in your feelings, Carol, and while many of us may not have family connections to the Ukraine, we still share a human connection.
