Meet the Meetles

Yes, you read the title correctly. It's The Meetles.

I was walking through the Times Square subway station the other day and I heard a band playing "Here Comes the Sun," one of my favorite Beatles' songs.  It was part of the Music Under New York  program, sponsored by New York City Transit, which schedules musical performances in subway stations and commuter rail terminals. There is a wide range of types of music and the quality is very high. I always enjoy chancing on a singer or band during my travels around the city. The Meetles were terrific and I stayed though "Here Comes the Sun," despite knowing I might be late for the appointment I had. It was definitely well worth risking lateness.

There are many other performers in the subway system -- not sanctioned by New York City Transit. But that said, they almost always make traversing the subway system more enjoyable. When I got to my platform a musician was playing "My Favorite Things" on steel drums at one end of the platform. Further down the platform a woman was singing a Spanish ballad. I enjoyed the sign she had with her.

We were back to winter today and snow is predicted for tomorrow. Nonetheless I'm planning to be out and about knowing things should be spring-like again by Saturday.

Please stop by tomorrow for Random 5 Friday fun. We'll be back to the Metropolitan Museum and I've got other fun pictures to share.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care.

I love music and would have enjoyed the time you spent listening too! You always have so much fun. Enjoy your weekend and stay warm. We will get a bit of a warmup again after two days of cold rainy weather. The low will be 33 tonight! I am already under my electric blanket! LOL! Hugs, Anne

Another Beatles fan checking in! This time of year I'm fortunate to witness some incredible skyscapes. Now I'm thinking it's time to cue up "Here Comes the Sun" on my iPod!

Love all these musicians spirit. I'd be curious to learn their stories.

What fun to hear live music out in the open like that. Wonderful indeed. Certainly would put a spring in my step too. Sorry winter is rearing it's ugly head on your first spring day.

What a treat that would be as you go back and forth to your appointments. It's colder here too, but it is officially the first day of Spring so there is hope ! Happy Spring !

The performers must audition before they are given an area and allowed to perform. Some are nice to listen to.

A Beetle fan here! I enjoy the musicians that play for us as we walk through Balboa Park in San Diego. I'll listen when I visit there with Susanna, my granddaughter, and I'll give her a few bucks to lay at their feet!

Happy First Day of Spring!
