It's Christmas Time in the City -- Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show

Every season holds its own traditions and memories, and no season seems more heavily laden with memories than this one. It seems every day and every step -- even if they are steps to places I've never been before -- brings me to another time and memory.

This weekend my friend Lonni came to New York City for our annual December weekend. As we did last year we visited the Metropolitan Museum -- pictures to come -- and once again delighted in the Christmas show at Radio City. It was wonderful and festive and I was reminded of the first time I saw the Christmas show with my parents. The exact year has disappeared from my memory, but the memory of the excitement -- being in New York, a movie in the biggest theater I could imagine, the Rockettes and seeing camels on stage -- has stayed with me. Movies are no longer part of the show, but the Rockettes and camels and excitement are still very much a part.

I still gasp with awe and delight at the first look at the lobby. The line to enter Radio City stretched for two blocks, so my anticipation built up.

The special effects are wonderful. I especially enjoyed the snowflakes that filled the stage and ceiling before the show started. There was also a three dimensional segment and we all wore the special glasses.

There was still the thrill of the Rockettes...

...And the camels and the live Nativity.

There are no movies anymore, and sadly, my parents are long gone, but I am blessed to have dear friends to share the present with, as I am warmed by the memories of time past. I think of a "Christmas Carol" -- another favorite of the season -- and I am warmed by the thoughts of Christmas past, happy in the excitement and enjoyment of Christmas present and prayerful for Christmas future. I wish you all happy memories, enjoyable days and prayers to carry you into the future.

Pepe is now festive in his Christmas regalia and I hope to share photos tomorrow in a Monkee Monday Christmas post. I've started wrapping gifts and from now through Chanukah and into Christmas there will be tiny scraps of wrapping paper on my dining room table.  A toast to you, my Buttercupland friends, and to tiny scraps of wrapping paper.

As ever, thanks for visiting and take good care.

It is indeed a wonderful time of the year. Once upon a time, in Branson, I saw the Rockettes in a Christmas Show. It was a moment to remember. No doubt being in New York, New York it's even more stunning. Loved the photos.

What an amazing experience! I'd love to be there someday, but the likelihood of that happening is very slim. Have a wonderful Monday!

Such lovely photos Carol! What a joy to be able to go to the show! I love the Nativity and cherish Christmas so much. I remember my father setting out our Nativity and allowing one of us to place the baby Jesus in the manger. My parents were always making Christmas a special time for all of us. My oldest daughter Noelle has so many pretty Nativity sets. When she was newly married and had none I gave a prized one that I loved. She still has it plus so many more. I need to dig deep into my garage to find all my Christmas boxes! But our tree is starting to look lovely with all the decorations. We started with gold and silver and added blue and red. SO colorful! My oldest son Jeremy bought me a 2014 Barbie ornament. Noelle and phamily gave me the Holiday Barbie for my birthday last week! My sweet niece Katie has every single Holiday Barbie because they started making them in 1988 the year she was born! I am jealous! HaHaHa! I have several and my friend Sharon gave me a Barbie one year from Bloomingdales! Sharon is a shopping Diva! LOL! I love seeing NYC aglow! Thank you dear heart for sharing with us. Hugs, Anne

Oh!, I was so hoping you were going to post about Radio City this year! That's pretty neat that Lonni was able to join you! :)

...Another chapter in your sweet book of memories.

PS -I've only been there once, with my parents to see the movie, "Unsinkable Molly Brown" ... but the memory remains one of my favorites.

Loved this, Carol! I never went as a child, even though we lived in Brooklyn my entire life. I think my parents could not afford to take 3 children. I did bring my children to see the show when they were young so I was just as excited as they were! Nice memories!
