The Calling

These last few cold and snowy days have been perfect reading days. With my cup of hot cocoa I've curled up with "The Calling" by Suzanne Woods Fisher," and my cold and snowy days became cozy days.

I appreciate history and biography, but my first love of reading is always a novel. "The Calling" captured me in the first pages and I had a delightful journey to the end of the book. The story centers around Bethany Schrock, a twenty-year old Amish woman, looking for purpose and love. It's difficult not to like Bethany, as well as the characters that surround her, especially five elderly sisters. I enjoy novels with Amish settings and I especially liked this one. I am so glad to find a new favorite author in Suzanne Woods Fischer. "The Calling" is part of the "Inn at Eagle Hill" series and I'm pleased to have other books in the series to read. Though I enjoyed "The Calling" with my hot cocoa, I know I'll enjoy the rest of the series with a cold lemonade, too.

I did get myself out and about today and despite the bitter weather it felt great to be outdoors. We had brilliant bright sun and it was a welcome change from yesterday's snow. The only thing I've got scheduled for tomorrow is physical therapy. It's only a four block walk and just far enough to be a little excursion. Afterwards I will treat myself to a cup of coffee at my favorite coffee place. It's not fancy, but they have the best coffee around.

As always, so appreciate your visits. Take good care and keep cozy!

Please note, I was given a copy of "The Calling" for review via the Litfuse Publicity Group, but the opinions are all mine.

I love a book that hooks you right away! Page turners are the best kind. You want to keep reading to find out what happens but at the same time, you don't want it to end. She was a popular author in our church library, too.

I like Amish based stories a lot. This one sounds good. That's what I did too curled up with a good book.

Stay warm and keep on reading. I know we both love to read; I just read The Rosie Project which I think is very funny, tho everyone's sense of humor is different.

It sounds like an interesting read. This time of year I'm always drawn back to old book loves, and have been re-reading some favourites.

Hi Carol. Thanks for visiting my Blog. I agree that one can't beat a good novel although I do read a lot of non-fiction as well. I love entering another place and time for a few hours. This doesn't sound like the kind of book I would pick up but you do make it sound tempting!

There are a lot of books out about the Amish lately. I think people are in awe of the simple life. I've read several but not by this author. I got got out yesterday to run a few errands but was not walking, but driving around. The places I needed to go to were not close enough for walking and besides it was to bitter cold. We've been around 11-12 degrees for highs. Hope you enjoy your outing and good coffee.

Sounds like a book I would enjoy. Coffee sounds so tasty. I try to only drink 1 cup in the a.m. but boy, a cup in the evening would be great!

Dear Carol,

I am glad that you found books that you can enjoy during this very cold and quite slippery weather.
I love a good cup of coffee too. I think it is my comfort to have a good cup of coffee.
Please be careful when you are out and about. It is very slippery.
Take good care.
Blessings dear. Catherine xo
