I'm a Peapodder...

...and I'm so excited.

One of the fun things about BlogHer conferences is meeting the sponsors. It's a wide range from Pillsbury...

No, I don't know this blogger, but it was my first glimpse of the Doughboy, and he's an old friend.

This handsome guy is an old friend, too.

...to Gorton's and there are many, many others of all varieties. I really enjoyed chatting with the representatives. Sometimes we touched on things that are personally helpful -- an idea for a volunteer campaign via AARP -- and some are very blog related. The Land of Lakes recipe brochures are one example of something I thought of immediately for my blog buddies. Though I loved the delicious food at the Land of Lakes booth, as well as meeting Pioneer Woman, were terrific for me, too.

I thought I'd seen just about every booth in the exhibition hall, but as I was making one last round in the last hour I saw the Peapod booth. I'd heard of Peapod, Stop and Shop's online shopping and delivery service, but I assumed -- so wrongly! -- that it was too expensive. Spurred on by a twenty dollar coupon I decided to look at it this afternoon, and if it worked for me I would order from it.

What a find! I love living in Manhattan, but as I've written before, it is pricey, and groceries are very pricey. I've thought of joining a big quantity store, and there's now one in Manhattan, but with taxi fare home and some limit on what I can carry, it wasn't good economic sense. Generally, I also don't need five pounds of almost anything at a time. I did stock up on seltzer -- one of my staples -- and paper towels, but otherwise I ordered just what I need for the next ten days. I was careful not to get too much and worry that half of it would spoil. The prices were very reasonable and it was a temptation to buy bags of the potato chips I like at $1.00/bag, more than a dollar less than the grocery. Luckily I resisted the temptation and stuck to one bag of chips. There is a delivery fee, tax and tip, but I still have saved more than enough to make it worthwhile.

My groceries are scheduled for Friday afternoon and I am so excited to be a peapodder. I know I can find my buddies, the Doughboy and the Fisherman, save money and time. Hurray for Peapod! Does anyone else use online grocery services?

I'm getting used to back to normal at home today. I went to exercise class first thing this morning, did a few errands and picked up just a few things at the grocery, pre-Peapod. I've got my library work tomorrow afternoon and a very fun excursion tomorrow morning. I'll be blogging about my excursion. Please stop by tomorrow night.

If anyone would like a folder of Land of Lake recipes, just leave a comment. I've got three left.

Wishes for a Wonderful Wednesday!

I haven't given thought to an online grocery service. Grocery shopping is one of my favorite things to do.:-) I hope you are happy with the results.

Growing up in a small southern town, I remember when the mom and pop grocery delivered groceries. Haven't thought of that in years!
Glad you are back and that you enjoyed your time away.

Buttercup, I have always thought the peapod delivery would be high...it probably would be for me..but since , like you said you need a taxi, and have to limit what you could carry...this is a good deal for you. Hope you are feeling great after your trip, even after the delays.xoxo,Susie

When I lived in Pgh I had a friend who delivered groceries ordered via the phone before the days of online.

Interesting. We can just hop in the car and get right to our grocery store. I am not a fan of grocery shopping though.

If you have any recipes folders left, I'd like one.

I used to be a Peapodder...loved it. I have counted the number of times you touch a product before it actually gets into your cabinet or refrig when you shop yourself (7)and comparing that to the number of times you touch a product using peapod...hands down, no comparison. And with your limitations of transportation and weight issues, Peapod is definitely the right answer for you. I just did it because grocery shopping is not a fav of mine.

It all seems so fun! Looking forward to hearing more about the conference!

Haven't heard of Peapodder but two of my daughters have ordered their groceries online from our Shop Rite. Occasionally I will pick the groceries up for them or they will have them delivered. Erin puts in so many hours at work and Jamie has the six kiddos, so this is a great convenience. Like you said, it isn't all that more expensive.

I haven't needed online shopping but Vivian uses it all the time.

You're right about the big box stores. I called my mother while I was in Costco and she said she could use a box of tissue. I laughed so much. I told her there was ine anything in Costco 0 6 ir 9 yes. 1, no.
