Halloween on Broadway

There are few things sweeter than a regular, average quiet Saturday afternoon. I treasured my moments of walking in the autumn light this afternoon in my neighborhood. I went to services, did grocery shopping and took a walk. The grocery store is spotty in its supplies and I made sure to restock on milk and toilet paper, two necessities of life.  I also took an afternoon nap and am slowly getting recharged.

I am feeling guilty for not doing something today to help in those areas still suffering so much. But I also know that next week holds long days and I need to get some rest to do the things that I need to do and can best be of service.

Halloween was my first day back in my neighborhood and I encountered lots of trick or treaters during my errands. Both young and not-so-young folks were dressed in costumes. This entire week has been surreal and the Halloween costumes certainly contributed to this feeling.

Update on No-Spending October: I spent a total of $19.75 on things. I bought two Halloween cards, a tube of anti-pain lotion recommended for nerve pain and paper goods, tissue, paper towels and toilet paper. These are all things that will be/have been used and nothing that counts as "stuff," that will take up space. I don't feel that I missed buying anything I needed. I explored my closet and found a pair of pants I'd forgotten I owned and are great for this time of year. I also spent $27.00 cleaning my favorite winter jacket and getting it mended. It looked sad at the end of last winter, but it's looking nicely refurbished and the tailor did a great job matching the missing snap. I'm designating November as Low Spending November. I know there are holiday purchases I want to make, but I will really think before I spend and I will report back here.

I hope everyone is having a sweet Saturday. I'm off for some blog visits, so I'll see you in Blogland!

Your nap and low key day is good for you as you recharge for a busy week, and I like your no/low spending October report.

Very wise, you cannot continue to serve if you've nothing left to give.

Great job on the spending; methinks this is something I will have to try.

It is funny that while all the "abnormal" going on with flooding and destruction, life tries to continue as "normal" - - - as normal as can be for Halloween. People dress in costumes one day of the year and no one thinks anything about it but any other day, it would be considered quite odd.

It sounds as though you have had a good day for recharging. That will be valuable as you face next week!

Your efforts to spend less are commendable. When we really take the time to see where our money goes, there are really plenty of ways to save. Holiday shopping will soon be upon us and I for one will be cutting back on other things in order to do that. We finally had our trick or treat here yesterday as they delayed it due to the storm. Saturday was our first day without rain in a week. I do believe we can't be good for others unless we are first good to ourselves. I'm glad you got some rest and I hope you get a little more this Sunday.

I need some lessons from you on spend less months. I am getting better at it, in fact Ralph does the shopping now and sticks to the list whereas I don't, I get easily distracted and tempted. I did go shopping with him yesterday and was shocked at how much even the most basic of groceries have gon up in price.

I am pleased to see you are looking after yourself, there is only so much you can do with limited energy.

Take Care

Hugs from Sheilagh and Ralph xxx

I'm so glad that you are back home again. We have been praying for you and all those suffering from this storm.

I'm afraid that Oct will always be a big spending. Month for me. My daughter, 3 grand kids, and 4 friends all have birthdays in Oct. Also... One grandson bday is Sept 28 and another granddaughter is Nov. 2. from the end of Sept. until Nov 2..... We are giving gifts and eating cake every time we turn around. It is hard on our wallets and our waistlines!

take good care of yourself. hugs, Lura

I'm glad things are returning to normal for you. I wish I could get into a low-spending habit but I keep running into stock-up sales and I can't resist!
