Thanks, Sally Ride

I have always had an enormous interest in the space program and admiration for our Astronauts. There are three in particular that I held in particular esteem -- John Glenn, Neil Armstrong and Sally Ride. The only one of these three that I had the good fortune to meet was Sally Ride and the memory and thrill stays with me to this day. In the early 1980's I worked in the Office of the Mayor and was fortunate to be part of the staff that both helped plan and attend many events. One of these events was a presentation to the group of astronauts of which Sally Ride was part of in 1983.  Her achievement of being the first woman in space at a time when it was a difficult path for women in science awed me then and continues to do so.

My sadness is deep. A legend of our generation is gone, but she blazed the trail for many to follow. Thanks, Sally Ride.

Our older daughter hated to hear of her passing, too. At one time, this daughter considered a career in the space industry - - - - attended the camp at Huntsville, Al and loved it. Praise God for great role models.

I was sad to hear of her passing at such a young age. She certainly inspired many of us.

Amen---Amen-- Amen... I lived and worked in Clear Lake, TX for 12 years (1988-2000)... That is the NASA community --and we had many many astronauts and families in our church.

That community is really struggling now... I cannot believe that our Govt. gave up this wonderful program... Very very sad!!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

How wonderful you actually got to meet her! What an honor. Explorers like her are to be admired for sure. We here in Ohio claim John Glen as our own and are very proud of him. Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one!

I vaguely remember a song from that era called "Ride, Sally Ride". I keep expecting to hear it during one of the tributes on the news.

What a nice tribute to Sally. I looked up to her in the 80's with amazement. What an amazing accomplishment.

I'm sorry that I missed your call. We seem to be playing phone tag. I appreciate you calling back and the e-card you sent.

Please take a look at my blog. I've made a post about the internet business that JOhn and I have started working for. We post one ad a day for a penny auction company. It has turned out to be extremely profitable for our friends so we started doing it 2 months ago. Our account has doubled in 2 months. Take a look at the video on my blog. Call my cell or email me at lszeek@charter.net if you want to know more. I think it would be a great opportunity for you.

Keep recovering. You remain in my prayers. Hugs, Lura
