Happy Birthday, Mr. Dickens

It's an honor for Buttercupland to join in the official celebrations for the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens. Not that we are officially on the list of celebrations, but I wouldn't let a little thing like the lack of a royal invitation keep me from celebrating the man who gave us Tiny Tim -- the first and best Tiny Tim -- Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and one of the great heroes of the Christmas season, Scrooge.

My favorite Dickens novel is "A Tale of Two Cities" and I can still recite some of the passages learned in the eighth grade and I still cry when I read it.

Do you have a favorite Dickens novel or a memory from one that you especially enjoy?

I leave us tonight with one of my favorite quotes from Mr. Dickens, "G'd bless us everyone."

Dickens Christmas Carol was the inspiration for the Muppet's version and where my blog name came from. :)

Hi Carol, I love the new background here. Unfortunately, I read Dickens so many years ago, I need a refresher literature course. I do love the Christmas Carol movies, all the different versions. I would say that is my favorite Dickens novel. xo

I remember reading "Great Expectations" and "A Tale of Two Cities" in high school. They wern't the easiest books to read but well worth the effort! I'd like to read them again to see if they would now be easier to understand.

Have been many times to the place he summered at and seen his summer home sitting on top of the cliffs at Broadstairs. He was a real talent for sure. I like all of his books, and recently was able to watch on the telly here a television adaptation of one of the books he had not finished, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. It was fabulous! Todd and I are crazy over period television pieces.

I cannot pick a favourite, I think I have more than three..
David Copperfield
Great Expectations
Tale of Two Cities
Bleak House...
Pickwick Papers
I could go on and on:)

I had read most of them before I was eleven. I also love the black and white movie adaptations of his stories.

Happy memories of disappearing into his books and relishing every word. Mmmm think I need to re read them.

Thank you for whetting my appetite for Dickens again.

I'd have to agree that I like the Christmas Carol the best but then they are all wonderful. He wrote from the heart and about the people of the times.

The fact that they made a Muppets movie out of a Dickens novel is high praise indeed!
