For no special reason I've been thinking about books I read and loved as a child. "Little Women" is definitely high on the list and a number of series of detective books, including those featuring the Bobbsey Twins and Cherry Ames. Cherry was a lesser known detective. She was a nurse and her adventures featured her in a wide array of settings, including one of my favorites, "Cherry Ames, Department Store Nurse." Does anyone else remember Cherry?
The book that keeps coming to the top of my list is "Charlotte's Web."
I first read it in the fourth grade and this was the subject of the first book report I wrote. I am sure I re-read it in fifth and sixth grades and cried each time. I'm even getting a little misty just looking at the cover here. In a confession the plot is now a little fuzzy to me -- it is over fifty years since I last read it. Guess it's time to re-read this treasure of a book.
What is your favorite/favorites of childhood?

I always loved "Nancy Drew" and the "Happy Hollisters" and anything by Beverly Cleary. I re-read one of her books so many times my parents hid it from me! Thanks for your visit too. xo,
So many great books and series! Bobbsey Twins, Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys ... but most of all? Anne of Green Gables. My absolute favourite!! :)
I too read the Nancy Drew books when I was young. My brother adored Where the Wild Things Are. Then when I was in jr high I had to read To Kill A Mockingbird. I couldn't put it down. I think I read the whole thing in one day.
Little Women is my absolute favorite childhood book. I also really liked the Nancy drew books and Witch of Blackbird Pond.
Better Homes and Garden Storybook was my first favorite and has continued to be because it has many stories within the covers. Also, "Little House on the Prairie" Series.
Carol, I'm on Jess's computer. I loved Cherry Ames. Mom was a nurse and Cherry got to travel and it seemed like the most wonderful profession and on top of that she was a detective. I read all of the series until I outgrew it. Nancy Drew and her chum Bess were other favorites. Take care, chum Carol

I do, I do!!! ... remember Cherry, that is.
I, too, was a fan of that series AND the Bobbsey Twins. Suppose my all-time favorite was "My Friend Flicka" - I was totally besotted with horses!
I'd have to say my favorite books to read were Nancy Drew books (as I see a lot of others have said too). They were so exciting to me!
Best,
Gloria
I really loved All of a Kind Family, and Island of the Blue Dolphins. When I've revisited them as an adult they hold up to the test of time. The Bobbsey Twins series didn't. But Charlotte's Web never let's me down.
Did you see Jim Carey is making a movie of Mr. Popper's Penguins?
HI!!!
I have a hard time recalling books by name ---I know I read Charlotte's Web and little Women and the Kids detective series as well, My best friend as a child --her and I would ride our bikes to the library all the time, it was about 3 miles from our houses, but we were kids and back then it was safe to do that!!!!
I love to read, just do not spend time doing it, as I read blogs now!!!
I do read to the Babies everyday!!
hugs,
jamie

The "Little House" books. All of them! I got to go to Laura Ingalls Wilder's home in Missouri a few years ago. Pa's fiddle is on display and I cried like a baby. :)
My favorite book to read to my second grade class is "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes.
The Little House on the Prairie series was hands down my very favorite. I still enjoy reading them to my children and even catching the series on TV.
Nancy Drew & The Bobbsey Twins here ... daughter LOVED Charlotte's Web.
Tried to call you today, sorry we missed talking with you ... been too long. I need a 'Buttercup fix'.
Hope all is going well & you are enjoying a beautiful spring day, my friend.
Hugs & love ~

"Island of the Blue Dolphins" and I loved reading Judy Blume books. I also loved the "Sweet Valley Twins" series ... anyone out there remember that series (before they became teens and turned slutty that is).
In the Little House on the Prairie Series--The First Four Years (probably because I had a crush on Dean Butler who played Almonzo on the show...)
Loving Cherry Ames books was one of the reasons I became an RN! LOL! I loved Robinson Crusoe, Little Women, Swiss Family Robinson. Mrs Mike..etc...I loved to read as a child..still do! :)
