Baby's First Christmas

...to some very unseasonal thoughts!

Before you think that I  have totally snapped, I'll share my train of thought. There are eighteen of us in my unit at work. Some of us are well past the baby age -- though grandchildren and great nieces and nephews are definitely in our thoughts. But we are blessed to have two upcoming babies to welcome to our work family. One is a little boy, who is due just any minute, and a little girl due in September. We have a grandchild due in our Bible study group also in September and a great niece or nephew for K in October. It's no wonder, but I really have babies on my mind.

For at least three of these little ones I'd like to get "Baby's First Christmas" ornaments and I want to enjoy picking them out, sooner rather than in the rush in December. For this project I need suggestions. Does anyone have ideas about craft shops or Etsy stores to which to direct me? I'm thinking something quilted -- I'm not the quilter to do it -- might be just right. I've got lots of time, but want to enjoy the choosing. I know there are some great ideas in Blogland and that I can count on all of you.

Thanks and hope you're having a great week!

I'd hit some local craft fairs, or try ebay...or alternately you can make them yourself!!!

Dear Buttercup,
I have two blog friends who are very talented and crafty and might be able to get you just what you want. You may know them already but if not go to their blogs and ask if they have or can make what you want.
One is Marie.. she is an artist that draws darling little people and creates everything from dolls to greeting cards. If you tell her what you want I bet she can make it. Her blog is:

My other crafty friend is Marlene...She is a quilter.
Her blog is:

Tell them I sent you. I feel certain one of them can help you.Good Luck.

I think in a previous post you mentioned that you would be in Vermont during the summer? There are probably craft and gift shops up there that would have baby Christmas ornaments all year round. I looked on Etsy but didn't see anything quilted. I did see some adorable ceramic ones. Good luck! xo,

Yay! Bloggers back on. But I see youve lost on ur comments. Lura sent me over to your blog, and while I havent actually quilted an ornament before I'm always willing to give something a try and I have something in mind for my little nephew, so maybe if I make his, then you can see what you think. Because if I'm already making 1 whats a couple more? Just a thought.

I say you make them yourself. My personal favorites come from Michaels--they are white porcelain--you could do rub on stencils or the like...make them very personal.

I received the most precious "Baby's First Christmas Ornament" from my best friend this past January. (A little late :) but I wasn't in any hurry to pack it up!

It isn't quilted, but rather stamped tin. I absolutely loved and cherish it.

Feel free to hop over to my blog and look in my February 2011 archives where I posted about the gift. If you are interested, leave me a comment and I will get the name of the Etsy designer that created it.

Blessings,
Valerie

P.S. I hopped over from Country Dreaming. Cute blog!

I see you lost my original comment on this post. If you need the other links that I sent you let me know. I am glad that cross stitch mom contacted you. I sent her to you in case she could help. Hugs, Lura

Some of my personal favorites can be found on Ebay. If you type "quilted ornament" in the search block you'll see. While they may not have First Christmas up right now, I'm sure they'd love to show you what they've done. Have fun:@)
PS-While these look involved, I hear you can make one in about the time it takes to watch a movie (once the fabric is cut). I haven't tried it yet, but it's something I'd like to!
