The Februaries

It's hard to be a Buttercup tonight. Maybe it's the letdown after special, super and magnificent. Maybe it's yesterday's ice storm or maybe it's trying to get too many things done in too little time at work for the last few days. Maybe it's all of the above and the realization that there's been much too much winter and there's still a lot more possibly to come. Maybe it's just the Februaries...

But I am Buttercup and I am going to look for good in "The Februaries." It's when the days grow longer and spring -- and spring training -- grow closer. The little crocus are soon to be peeping up, although it seems impossible looking at the mounds of snow everywhere, and right behind them the trees will be budding. After the first warm wisps of spring -- tentative and halting -- the days will grow still longer and I will leave work in the light. I will walk down streets that have not a drop of snow and my boots will be put away for a long, long time. No scarf, no gloves, no boots, no down coat...Just me, a sweater and sunglasses! And that my friends, is a bedtime story for grownups. Sweet dreams and may tulips dance on your pillow.

Wintertime blues! All of a sudden our town has become a convention center for very confused robins. They are here by the hundreds! In early February! The day before a blizzard came....they're fat, with big round bellies. They swarm the skies, making black shadows on the snow, and fill the trees and roof tops. I've never seen this before. What could be causing it? They flock together, and it's so very eerie. Maybe they have the Februaries as well...?

Sweet Buttercup, hoping your Febuaries don't get you down and pass quickly into all of the tings you most enjoy!

Way to keep your chin up, Buttercup. I am an oddball in that I like winter, especially the waning months of it. I guess I like the long evenings, the excuse to snuggle in early, the permission to make heavier meals (do try the cranberries -- they are my absolute favorite!), and more flattering (at least for me) clothing. Well, I'd better stop here before I am chased out -- hang in there, despite my best efforts, spring really is right around the corner. ;)

You are so right. We shall savor every Spring time moment that my come our way. We will see the sunshine today and I've some errands to run so I'll be out and about. It seems I should stock up a bit before the next storm blows in. Have a fantastic Friday!

February is better than January because January seems long after having holidays in December. February has some fun stuff happening with the promise of spring. I am thankful today that we did NOT get the frozen precipitation that was a good possibility. I can live with the 12 - 18 hour rain instead.

I bought white tulips in a snowstorm today to remind myself that a change will come. But in the meantime I am still floating on the wonderful week that we enjoyed so much.

We have snow right on through Feb & March up here - sometimes into the middle of April too. So spring is a long ways off still!

This reminds me of an olden song I heard just this morning: "You've got to ac-centuate the positive, e-liminate the negative ...."
Your resolve is actually contagious, Buttercup! :)

I was cheered by the bright blues skies we had over NYC the past few days, Buttercup! I know it was really cold, but the blue skies reminded me of spring!

Hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend!

I really like your bedtime story! Oh, I am dreaming and dreaming of the Spring too! And you know, you're right -- I can see that the day are getting a little longer, and each day it stays lighter a little longer. :)
Best,
