My Heart is in Tucson

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords

I had a dozen ideas for posts, but this is my only thought for today. My heart and my prayers are in Tucson, with Representative Giffords and her family and with the friends and families of those who were killed and injured.

Most of my working years have been spent in government work and as an avocation, working on political campaigns. I was sixteen at my first political event and forty-four years later I am still at press conferences, hearings and giving presentations describing public programs. Often I am at venues with metal detectors, but more often I and my colleagues are out meeting "the public," and there are no security arrangements in place. I  like meeting people and being out in the community, but I am also very aware of the possible things that can happen, and sometimes tragically do.

Tucson, my heart and prayers are with you.

Oh Buttercup Sweetie...
Just a beautiful post this evening. After all the media on TV for the last 2 days and in our papers, I just couldn't post about it. It has really broken all of our hearts.

A precious little babe who wanted to learn about the government, 9 years old, there with her neighbor, shot and lost her little life. She was born on Sept. 11th, 2001 of all things. She was one of the children featured in the Face of Hope book published about children born that day. So sad. So, so sad.

A senseless shooting. We are not safe anywhere anymore.

Thank you for the prayers for our state as we all struggle to get past this.

Many hugs sweetie and SO much love, Sherry

I too am sad and upset over the shootings yesterday. When I think of those families whose hearts are broken and whose lives are changed forever well it just breaks my heart. I pray all people and parties will be more conscious of their words and choose instead a healthy political debate instead of one of fear and hate,......:-)Hugs

Great post and although we can't have security at every event it goes to show what public officials have to deal with everyday. Check out the post on my blog tell me what yout think.
