My Enchanted Village

Something very strange is happening. As I walked from the subway tonight I found myself enjoying the snow flurries. I wasn't dreaming of warm beaches -- though I'd happily be on a plane to Florida in a second -- I was enchanted with the beauty of the snow. Granted, it was only flurries and the sidewalks were clear. But there was still four inches of icy mush at each corner and there were slippery patches here and there. But I wasn't bothered. I was enjoying walking through the snowy landscape and as I walked my thoughts drifted back to one of my favorite memories of childhood.

This is the memory of trips to Boston with my parents, especially to the Enchanted Village at Jordan Marsh. Jordan Marsh was the department store of Boston and the Enchanted Village was their big Christmas display. The store was sold to Macy's over a decade ago and the Village has gone to another home, but the memory is still so bright for me. The Enchanted Village and its snowy wonders became my dream world of happy times in winter. After our visits I'd spend hours drawing pictures of the Enchanted Village and creating families to live there. As I walked down the street I found myself thinking I was in a beautiful snowy place, almost as sweet as the Enchanted Village.

Is it possible? Have I come to like the snow? I never dreamed it could happen. Never!

Sure sounds like the snow is beginning to grow on you.
I don't always appreciate the coldness that winter brings but I think it is absolutely beautiful when it snows.

It's a lot nicer if it's off the roads and sidewalks, lol! Glad you're enjoying it!

I think as we get older we "mellow". We enjoy the more simple things. We are content to just "be" as I like to say.
Big snowy hugs, Sue

You are really boosting my desire for a return trip to NYC and my husband loves you for it. He's the big city guy and I'm the country road kind of girl. Over 33 years, we've worked it out (LOL!)and I see a trip to NYC this spring. Hope we can meet for tea in that little place you wrote about the other day!

I've always enjoyed the snow. Don't care to drive in it when it's real bad, mind you BUT...
I do enjoy watching it fall and the peace and
quiet it gives the earth.

Here in Memphis town, we have The Enchanted Forest each year at Christmas. The little mice and all the other "people" in the display are probably well over 50 years old. I took my boys when they were young.

Your picture is just amazingly beautiful girl. Now I have to admit...I'm not a snowbunny and truly don't enjoy doin' chores and feedin' the critters in the stuff but it is beautiful to look at.

God bless and enjoy your weekend sweetie!!!

I do love the snow and cold weather - - as long as the roads and sidewalks are clear. Snow scenes are some of the most beautiful there are to view.

Peaceful memories of yours bring back those in me! I lived in DC as an adult in the late 1980s and walked to and from the subways and busses to travel everywhere. Most snow falls gave my heart joy and peace in the flaky white wet falling from the sky. I also have sweet childhood dreams of an earlier time in DC (the late 1950s-early 60s) looking at the Christmas villages in Woodward and Lothrop Department store as well as Garfinkels.
Thanks for that walk with you in NYC.
Caring, ~ linda
